Seeing motion and apparent motion [PDF]
In apparent motion experiments, participants are presented with what is in fact a succession of two brief stationary stimuli at two different locations, but they report an impression of movement. Philosophers have recently debated whether apparent motion

Real-time motion analysis with linear-programming [PDF]
A method to compute motion models in real time from point-to-line correspondences using linear programming is presented. Point-to-line correspondences are the most reliable measurements for image motion given the aperture effect, and it is shown how they can approximate other motion measurements as well.

A trio of biological rhythms and their relevance in rhythmic mechanical stimulation of cell cultures
The primary aim of this article is to provide a biological rhythm model based on previous theoretical and experimental findings to promote more comprehensive studies of rhythmic mechanical stimulation of cell cultures, which relates to tissue engineering

A Database Architecture for Real-Time Motion Retrieval [PDF]
Over the past decade, many research fields have real- ized the benefits of motion capture data, leading to an ex- ponential growth of the size of motion databases. Conse- quently indexing, querying, and retrieving motion capture data have become important considerations in the usability of such databases.

A semantic feature for human motion retrieval [PDF]
With the explosive growth of motion capture data, it becomes very imperative in animation production to have an efficient search engine to retrieve motions from large motion repository.

No Evidence for an Auditory Attentional Blink for Voices Regardless of Musical Expertise
Background: Attending to goal-relevant information can leave us metaphorically “blind” or “deaf” to the next relevant information while searching among distracters. This temporal cost lasting for about a half a second on the human selective attention has

Best versus Good Enough Practices for Open Music Research
Music researchers work with increasingly large and complex data sets. There are few established data handling practices in the field and several conceptual, technological, and practical challenges. Furthermore, many music researchers are not equipped for

Analyzing Free-Hand Sound-Tracings of Melodic Phrases
In this paper, we report on a free-hand motion capture study in which 32 participants ‘traced’ 16 melodic vocal phrases with their hands in the air in two experimental conditions. Melodic contours are often thought of as correlated with vertical movement

Modelling and reconstructing the respiratory motion of the liver [PDF]
Respiratory organ motion is a complicating factor in tumour treatment. For dose delivery, the aim is to obtain a possibly static target in the beam's eye view whenever the beam is on.
