Wind turbine planetary gearbox health diagnostic using time-varying meshing stiffness

Australian Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2014
In wind turbine planetary gearbox, the ability to identify ring-planet-sun gears meshing stiffness from the real data of vibration responses makes it possible to determine the physical existed planet gear defects which are used for severity assessments. There are limitations for vibration based gear diagnostic methods.

Research on Time-Varying Meshing Stiffness of Helical Gear Considering Tribo-dynamic Behavior

2018 9th International Conference on Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (ICMAE), 2018
An analytical expression of oil film stiffness is proposed for helical gear based on two-dimensional EHL analysis considering the dynamic force, rotational speed, tooth blank temperature and oil viscosity. Then the tribo-dynamic equation is built to obtain the time-varying meshing stiffness of helical gear.

Time-varying mesh stiffness modelling of offshore wind gearboxes under multi-fault modes

Maritime Engineering
With the development of more complex offshore wind power generation structures, the operational stability and reliability of wind turbine units have gradually begun to confront significant challenges, particularly concerning gearbox failure issues. Notably, constructing fault datasets has been a persistent challenge due to problems such as inefficiency

Research on time-varying meshing stiffness of wind turbine gearbox considering tooth surface wear

Proceedings of the Institution of mechanical engineers. Part J, journal of engineering tribology, 2023
The time-varying meshing stiffness (TVMS) is an important element of the gear system. In this paper, the TVMS of each gear set of a wind turbine gearbox is calculated based on the principle of potential energy method, where wear is the most likely ...

Measurement and evaluation of time-varying meshing stiffness of faulty gears under different types

Measurement science and technology, 2023
When operating under complex conditions, gear failure is inevitable, and gears are often accompanied by multiple failures. In view of this phenomenon, this paper establishes a pitting crack coupling failure model and sets four different fault levels ...

Improved time-varying mesh stiffness model of cracked spur gears

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2015
Abstract Based on our previous work (Ma et al., 2014, Engineering Failure Analysis , 44, 179–194), this paper presents an improved analytical model (IAM) for the time-varying mesh stiffness (TVMS) calculation of cracked spur gears. In the improved analytical model, the calculation error of TVMS under double-tooth engagement due to repeatedly ...

Time-Varying Meshing Stiffness Investigation of Faulty Wind Turbine Sun Gear Under Dynamic Conditions

2023 2nd International Conference on Power Systems and Electrical Technology (PSET), 2023
The increasing financial implications of gearbox failures for wind turbines have necessitated a need for proactive measures to abate downtimes of the system. The sun gear of this gearbox is most vulnerable to failure due to the increased number of planet

Time-varying mesh stiffness calculation of cracked spur gears

Engineering Failure Analysis, 2014
Abstract Considering the misalignment of gear root circle and base circle and accurate transition curve, an improved mesh stiffness model for a healthy gear pair is proposed and validated by the finite element method (FEM). Based on the improved method, three mesh stiffness calculation methods (method 1: straight lines for crack path and limiting ...
