On the time referencing problem in time domain reflectometry
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1981In dielectric time domain reflectometry (TDR) a crucial point in the evaluation of the Fourier transforms of the incident and reflected pulses is the establishment of a common time origin t0. Ideally the TDR system should operate in a self contained way without the requirement of separate instruments or measurements to indirectly define t0.

Chirp optical time-domain reflectometry
Optical Fiber Communications Conference, 1995Nowadays, optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs) are commonly used for measuring the attenuation characteristics of optical fibers. A large number of techniques that enlarge the dynamic range of OTDR and improve its spatial resolution have been reported.

Dielectric measurements by time domain reflectometry
Conference on Electrical Insulation & Dielectric Phenomena - Annual Report 1975, 1975Transient or “time domain” methods have become of considerable interest in the last few years because of the availability of fast pulse generators and sampling oscilloscopes permitting measurements in the range 10−11 to 10−7 seconds, corresponding to frequencies from a few megahertz to a few gigahertz.
