Nonlinear Nonoverlapping Schwarz Waveform Relaxation for Semilinear Wave Propagation

open access: yes, 2007
We introduce a non-overlapping variant of the Schwarz waveform relaxation algorithm for semilinear wave propagation in one dimension. Using the theory of absorbing boundary conditions, we derive a new nonlinear algorithm.

Non‐Invasive Multidimensional Capacitive Sensing for In Vivo Traumatic Brain Injury Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Single‐electrode, multidimensional capacitive sensors noninvasively assess cerebral autoregulation and compliance for traumatic brain injury monitoring. ABSTRACT Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability, but invasive intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring is risky, and current non‐invasive methods lack the resolution and ...

P-Wave Arrival-Time Tomography of the Middle East Using ISC-EHB and Waveform Data

open access: yesSeismica
High-resolution seismic images are essential to gain insights into tectonic and geodynamical processes and assess seismic hazards. We constructed a P-wave model, MEPT (Middle East P-wave Travel-time), of the upper mantle beneath the Middle East and the ...

Tail-induced spin-orbit effect in the gravitational radiation of compact binaries

open access: yes, 2011
Gravitational waves contain tail effects which are due to the back-scattering of linear waves in the curved space-time geometry around the source.

Terahertz Waveform‐Selective Antenna Using a Patch Structure Loaded with Nonlinear Circuits

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, EarlyView.
A waveform‐selective antenna that integrates the functions of waveform selectivity, electromagnetic shielding, and EM wave radiation has been proposed. By integrating different nonlinear circuits and selecting appropriate component values, the antenna can achieve high reflection of either a pulse wave or a continuous wave, while allowing the other ...

Effects on a Deep-Learning, Seismic Arrival-Time Picker of Domain-Knowledge Based Preprocessing of Input Seismograms

open access: yesSeismica
Automated seismic arrival picking on large and real-time seismological waveform datasets is fundamental for monitoring and research. Recent, high-performance arrival pickers apply deep-neural-networks to nearly raw seismogram inputs. However, there is a

Integration of Soft‐Robotics and Deep Learning to Assess the Coordinated Biosonar Emission and Reception Dynamics in Hipposiderid Bats

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Combining a biomimetic soft‐robot with deep‐learning data analytics sheds light on a unique peripheral dynamics seen in the biosonar system of bats: Bats modulate their ultrasonic biosonar signals upon emission as well as reception with variable, yet highly coordinated motion patterns of their noseleaves and pinnae.

Volcano generated tsunami recorded in the near source

open access: yesNature Communications
Volcano sector collapse and pyroclastic density currents are common phenomena on active volcanoes and potentially a fatal source of tsunami waves which constitute a serious hazard for local as well as distant coastal population.
