Negative Group Velocity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The group velocity for pulses in an optical medium can be negative at frequencies between those of a pair of laser-pumped spectral lines. The gain medium then can amplify the leading edge of a pulse resulting in a time advance of the pulse when it exits ...

Real‐Time 3D Ultrasound Imaging with an Ultra‐Sparse, Low Power Architecture

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a novel, ultra‐sparse ultrasound architecture that paves the way for wearable real‐time 3D imaging. By integrating a unique convolutional array with chirped data acquisition, the system achieves high‐resolution volumetric scans at a fraction of the power and hardware complexity.

Local seismic response studies in the north-western portion of the August 24th, 2016 Mw 6.0 earthquake affected area. The case of Visso village (central Apennines)

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2016
In this work, we investigate the possible causes of the differential damaging observed in Visso village (central Apennines, about 28 km north from the August 24th, 2016 Mw 6.0 earthquake epicenter).

3D Anodic Alumina Nanoarchitectures: A Decade of Progress from Foundational Science to Functional Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ordered three‐dimensional anodic aluminum oxide (3D‐AAO) nanoarchitectures with longitudinal and transverse pores enable architecture‐driven metamaterials. The review maps fabrication advances, including hybrid pulse anodization, and shows how 3D‐AAO templates tailor properties across magnetism, energy, catalysis, and sensing.

Characterization of Fatigue Damage in Hadfield Steel Using Acoustic Emission and Machine Learning-Based Methods

open access: yesSensors
Structural health monitoring (SHM) of fatigue cracks is essential for ensuring the safe operation of engineering equipment. The acoustic emission (AE) technique is one of the SHM techniques that is capable of monitoring fatigue-crack growth (FCG) in real

Asymmetry of the Ferroelectric Phase Transition in BaTiO3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Phase transitions are typically assumed to behave identically in forward and reverse. This work shows that in the ferroelectric material barium titanate this is not true: heating drives an abrupt, first‐order jump, while cooling gives a smooth, continuous change.
