Finite Element Modeling of Residual Stress Formation during Nanosecond Laser Ablation of Stainless Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article investigates residual stress formation during single‐spot nanosecond laser ablation of stainless steel. Experimental validation and a parametric study using finite element simulations are employed to analyze thermal effects, ablation dynamics, and stress evolution.

Time‐Lagged Effects of Ionospheric Response to Severe Geomagnetic Storms on GNSS Kinematic Precise Point Positioning

open access: yesSpace Weather
This paper investigates time‐lag effects of ionospheric response to two severe geomagnetic storms (Kp = 8) on the degradation of kinematic precise point positioning (PPP) solutions, utilizing over 5500 Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) stations ...

Effectiveness of Circadian countermeasures in simulated transmeridian flight schedules [PDF]

open access: yes
The symptoms of jet-lag commonly afflict travelers who cross time zones. Insomnia during the new night, daytime fatigue, malaise, sleepiness, and gastrointestinal disturbances can occur for as long as 3 weeks after jet travel across even a few time zones.

Evaluating Dielectric Properties for Semicrystalline Thermoplastics to Analyze the Thermal and Rheological Properties in Laser‐Based Powder Bed Fusion of Plastics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 14, July 2025.
This study aims to establish a link between the dielectric properties of polyamide 12 (PA12) and its thermal and rheological properties using dielectric analysis (DEA). A standardized methodology is introduced to determine melting and crystallization temperatures.

Powder Metallurgy Preparation of Metastable β Ti–Cr–Ge Alloys for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops metastable β Ti–Cr–Ge alloys using powder metallurgy for biomedical implants. The Ti–10Cr–2Ge alloy exhibits superior mechanical performance with high yield strength (>1100 MPa), low Young's modulus (<85 GPa), and excellent strain hardening behavior.
