This graphical abstract depicts the number of additional fish that would be required to achieve 90% genetic diversity for endangered pupfish species housed in EAZA collections, with or without the use of cryopreserved material. ABSTRACT Zoos and aquaria must retain genetic diversity for the species they house if the populations are to remain viable ...

Optimizing fixed-time laparoscopic artificial insemination in the jaguar
Abstract The jaguar faces significant threats to survival from habitat fragmentation/loss and poaching. Conservation efforts include maintaining ex situ populations in zoos, but breeding success remains limited, necessitating the development of assisted reproductive technologies.

Two estrus-synchronization programs were compared and factors influencing their success over a year were evaluated. All cows received a setup injection of PGF2alpha at 39 +/- 3 d postpartum. Fourteen days later they received GnRH, followed in 7 d by a second injection of PGF2alpha.

Unconventional conceptions : family planning in lesbian-headed families created by donor insemination [PDF]
This study aimed to systematically describe the decision-making phase of family formation in German lesbians planning to parent via donor insemination, to assess the issues pertinent to each mother role and those involved in donor type choice using a ...

Improving ARTs: Microfluidics as a Tool for Sperm Selection
ABSTRACT Sperm selection is a critical step in assisted reproductive technology (ART), as sperm quality directly influences embryo quality. In vivo, the female reproductive tract imposes several physical and physiological barriers that favors only the most optimal spermatozoa reaching the fertilization site.

Variation in timed artificial insemination pregnancy rates in specific groups of suckled beef cows [PDF]
Insemination of beef cows at a predetermined time is a management tool to reduce labor costs associated with conventional heat detection available to cattle producers.

ABSTRACT Background Mammalian sperm need to undergo hyperactivation, capacitation, and acrosome reaction to achieve fertilization competence. However, the female reproductive tract presents contrasting metabolic environments. The uterus is glucose‐rich, and the oviduct is lactate‐rich and glucose‐limited.

Basal body temperature as a biomarker of reproductive state in ewes: A multi‐method comparison
This study quantified body temperature dynamics throughout reproductive stages in crossbred ewes based on complementary monitoring techniques. Five ewes from a semi‐extensive farming system were included in two sub‐trials: animals were first assessed in the prepubertal stage and, subsequently, an oestrous cycle was induced by intravaginal progesterone ...

Reinsemination intervals after timed artificial insemination or estrus-detected inseminations
The objective was to quantify the reinsemination intervals of lactating dairy cows that were either inseminated at estrus or received a timed AI (TAI) at first service. Cows in Experiment 1 were enrolled in a TAI program before first AI after calving. Cows detected in estrus after 50 days in milk (DIM) were inseminated, whereas the remainder continued ...
