Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Artificial diamonds as radiation-hard detectors for ultra-fast fission-fragment timing

open access: yes, 2013
In the framework of the construction of the double time-of-flight spectrometer VERDI, where we aim at measuring pre- and post-neutron masses directly and simultaneously, ultra-fast time pick-up detectors based on artificial diamond material were ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Precision timing with low gain avalanche detectors in the CMS MTD Endcap Timing Layer

open access: yes, 2020
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is undergoing an extensive Phase II upgrade program to prepare for the challenging conditions of the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC). In particular, precision timing can offset

Evaluation of Various Scintillator Materials in Radiation Detector Design for Positron Emission Tomography (PET)

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
The performance of radiation detectors used in positron-emission tomography (PET) is determined by the intrinsic properties of the scintillators, the geometry and surface treatment of the scintillator crystals and the electrical and optical ...

A prototype for the SHiP timing detector

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2020
The proposed SHiP experiment located at the CERN SPS will search for feebly interacting particles with masses below 10 GeV/c. A veto timing detector will reject combinatorial di-muon backgrounds by requiring event to be coincident in time within 100 ps.

The TORCH time-of-flight detector [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of The 39th International Conference on High Energy Physics — PoS(ICHEP2018), 2019
The TORCH detector is a time-of-flight system that is being developed for use in particle physics experiments with the aim of providing particle identification, over a wide area, in the momentum range 2 to 10 GeV/c. The detector exploits prompt Cherenkov light produced by charge particles traversing a 10 mm thick quartz plate.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
