Topical Timolol and the Nursing Mother

A 34-year-old nursing woman with elevated intraocular pressure voluntarily and without our knowledge applied 0.5% timolol maleate twice daily to her right eye. A milk sample 1.5 hours after administration of drug showed a much higher level of timolol (5.6 ng/mL) than a plasma sample drawn at the same time (0.93 ng/mL).

Topical timolol for an iris hemangioma

Extraocular infantile hemangiomas have been shown to respond to oral and topical beta blockers, while there is little literature regarding the management of intraocular infantile hemangiomas with beta blockers. This case report discusses the management of an iris hemangioma with topical timolol, a treatment previously unreported in the literature.

Concentration of timolol in aqueous humour

Two groups of twenty patients who were to undergo a routine e.c.c.e. applied eye-drops containing timolol 0.1% or 0.5% twice daily during the week preceding their operation. A third group of twenty patients, using placebo drops, served as control. During the cataract surgery a sample of aqueous was collected.

The results of an 18-month study with Timolol in 36 patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension are presented. Patients with ocular hypertension were well controlled with Timolol alone, while in the glaucoma group most patients needed combined treatment with a parasympathomimetic drug.
