Incisor cross‐sectional area at the cementoenamel junction correlates with an increased reliance on frugivory in anthropoid primates

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Diet is one of a limited set of key ecological parameters defining primate species. A detailed understanding of dental functional correlates with primate diet is a key component for accurate dietary inference in fossil primates. Although considerable effort has been devoted to understanding post‐canine dental function, incisor function remains

Effect of boundary conditions and constitutive relations on the free vibration of nonlocal beams

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2020
The free vibrations of nonlocal Euler and Timoshenko beams have been studied extensively, but there still remain some problems concerning boundary conditions and constitutive relations.

Laboratory‐Based Time‐Resolved In Situ X‐Ray Absorption Spectroscopy for Tracking Transformations of Working Electrocatalysts

open access: yesChemistry–Methods, EarlyView.
The experimental setup presented in this work combining laboratory‐based X‐ray absorption spectroscopy with an electrochemical reactor advances the fundamental understanding of electrocatalysts at extended time scales. By the example of the electrochemical reduction of CO2, the parameters are discussed that are relevant for optimizing the system to ...

Static and Dynamic Responses of Micro-Structured Beams

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
In this study, we developed a one-dimensional Timoshenko beam model, embedded in a 3D space for static and dynamic analyses of beam-like structures. These are grid cylinders, that is, micro-structured bodies, made of a periodic and specifically designed ...

Calculation of Critical Load of Axially Functionally Graded and Variable Cross-Section Timoshenko Beams by Using Interpolating Matrix Method

open access: yesMathematics, 2022
In this paper, the interpolation matrix method (IMM) is proposed to solve the buckling critical load of axially functionally graded (FG) Timoshenko beams.

Peridynamic Solutions for Timoshenko Beams

open access: yesEngineering, 2014
Peridynamics is a recently developed formulation for continuum mechanics which describes material deformation using a nonlocal approach. Unlike Classical Continuum Mechanics (CCM) where the conservation equations are cast into partial differential equations, Peridynamics describes the deformation in terms of integro-differential equations ...

Micropolar modeling approach for periodic sandwich beams [PDF]

open access: yesCompos. Struct. 2018;185:656-664, 2018
We develop a micropolar Timoshenko beam theory and use it to model web-core sandwich beams. The beam theory is derived by a vector approach and the general displacement solution to the governing sixth-order equations is given. A nodally-exact micropolar Timoshenko beam element is formulated using the solution.

Mode shape analysis of multiple cracked functionally graded beam-like structures by using dynamic stiffness method

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2017
Mode shapes of multiple cracked beam-like structures made of Functionally Graded Material (FGM) are analyzed by using the dynamic stiffness method.

The Shear Effect of Large-Diameter Piles under Different Lateral Loading Levels: The Transfer Matrix Method

open access: yesBuildings
In various analytical models, modeling the behavior of large-diameter monopiles and piles can be challenging due to these foundations with huge body sizes carrying mechanisms of lateral loads to the surrounding soils.

Pressure–impulse diagrams of RC beams considering fire–blast interaction

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract When analyzing military, defense, or structures/infrastructures deemed critical, explosion‐induced actions—often associated with malicious actions—play a significant role. The combined effect of a blast and fire is not uncommon: in fact, an explosion can be the extreme consequence of a fire or vice versa, a fire can occur as the result of an ...
