Free vibration analysis of angle-ply laminate composite beams by mixed finite element formulation using the Gâteaux differential

open access: yesScience and Engineering of Composite Materials, 2014
Free vibration analyses of angle-ply laminated composite beams were investigated by the Gâteaux differential method in the present paper. With the use of the Gâteaux differential method, the functionals were obtained and the natural frequencies of the ...

A new 3D-beam finite element including non-uniform torsion with the secondary torsion moment deformation effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, a new 3D Timoshenko linear-elastic beam finite element including warping torsion will be presented which is suitable for analysis of spatial structures consisting of constant open and hollow structural section (HSS) beams.

Structural Detailing of Material Extrusion Additively Manufactured 2D Metamaterials With Rigid Inclusions

open access: yesPAMM, Volume 25, Issue 4, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Metamaterials are artificially designed structures that exhibit tailored mechanical properties. These properties result primarily from their underlying small‐scale architecture and can therefore be improved by adapting this structure. In this work, the mechanical behaviour of the two‐dimensional projection of the underlying structure is ...

Weak solutions for a singular beam equation

open access: yesZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, Volume 105, Issue 12, December 2025.
Abstract This paper deals with a dynamic Gao beam of infinite length subjected to a moving concentrated Dirac mass. Under appropriate regularity assumptions on the initial data, the problem possesses a weak solution which is obtained as the limit of a sequence of solutions of regularized problems.

Damage identification on spatial Timoshenko arches by means of genetic algorithms

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper a procedure for the dynamic identification of damage in spatial Timoshenko arches is presented. The proposed approach is based on the calculation of an arbitrary number of exact eigen-properties of a damaged spatial arch by means of the ...

Dynamic modeling of double-helical gear with Timoshenko beam theory and experiment verification

open access: yes, 2016
In the dynamic study of the double-helical gear transmission, the coupling shaft in the middle of the two helical gears is difficult to be handled accurately.

Multi‐fidelity data meta‐learning approach for seismic response prediction of high‐rise shear wall buildings

open access: yesComputer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, Volume 40, Issue 29, Page 5512-5533, 9 December 2025.
Abstract Rapid and accurate estimation of seismic responses in city‐scale buildings is critical for post‐earthquake loss assessment and pre‐event identification of vulnerable buildings. However, conventional numerical simulation methods struggle to balance efficiency and accuracy when applied to large‐scale buildings, while existing data‐driven methods

ON “A CHECK ON THE ACCURACY OF TIMOSHENKO'S BEAM THEORY” [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sound and Vibration, 2002
In a recent article, Rneton (1) presented a comparison between the standing wave natural frequency predictions of Timoshenko beam theory (TBT) for a long beam of thin rectangular cross-section, when the flexural mode is sinusoidal in the axial co-ordinate x, and those of a plane stress elastodynamic solution; the latter may be regarded as the exact ...

Unrolling of Syngonium podophyllum: Functional Anatomy, Morphology and Modelling of Its Peltate Leaves

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, Volume 9, Issue 11, November 2025.
The unrolling of the peltate leaves in Syngonium podophyllum is analyzed and quantified (left‐hand side to center). These measurements serve to verify a mathematical model for leaf unrolling based on the model used in Schmidt (2007). An additional formula for obtaining a layer mismatch from a prescribed radius is derived.
