Relationships between Psychidae communities (Lepidoptera: Tineoidea) and the ecological characteristics of old-growth forests in a beech dominated landscape [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2016
Several studies address the question of which forest attributes are most important for the conservation of biodiversity. Unfortunately, there are no unequivocal answers because the response of a biological group to changes in forest structure depends on ...

Elusive ditrysian phylogeny: an account of combining systematized morphology with molecular data (Lepidoptera). [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Evol Biol, 2015
Background Ditrysia comprise close to 99 % of all butterflies and moths. The evolutionary relationships among the ditrysian superfamilies have received considerable attention in phylogenetic studies based on DNA and transcriptomic data ...

Mitochondrial phylogenomics of the Australian scribbly gum moth Ogmograptis (Lepidoptera: Bucculatricidae) and an examination of deep‐level relationships within Lepidoptera

open access: yesAustral Entomology, Volume 62, Issue 4, Page 449-463, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Larval feeding by the moth genus Ogmograptis (Bucculatricidae: Lepidoptera) creates one of the most iconic features of the Australian bush—the ‘scribbles’ found on smooth‐barked Eucalyptus. The taxonomic history of Ogmograptis has been challenging, with members of the genus being initially described in four different genera representing three ...

The unresolved phylogenomic tree of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera): Assessing the potential causes and consequences

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 47, Issue 4, Page 531-550, October 2022., 2022
Phylogenomics has helped us resolve much of the Lepidoptera tree of life, but the relationships among the superfamilies within Ditrysia, containing 98% of the order's species richness, remain unresolved. One of the unresolved questions is the phylogenetic position of the large microlepidopteran superfamily Gelechioidea, whose placement depends on the ...

Adding leaves to the Lepidoptera tree: capturing hundreds of nuclear genes from old museum specimens

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 46, Issue 3, Page 649-671, July 2021., 2021
A target enrichment kit and workflow to sequence and process hundreds to thousands of loci for recent and old Lepidoptera specimens is presented. Taxa are added to the Lepidoptera phylogeny based on museum specimens collected between 1892 and 2017. Lepidoptera systematic relationships are discussed.
