Surface Acidity and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2, WO3/TiO2, and MoO3/TiO2 Photocatalysts

TiO[sub 2] powder samples were calcined at various temperatures and their photocatalytic activity toward the degradation of 1,4-dichlorobenzene was measured. The surface acidity of the sample was also determined by the n-butylamine titration method. A linear relationship between photocatalytic activity and surface acidity was observed for the TiO[sub 2]

Study of TiO2 nanocrystallites in TiO2SiO2 composites

Abstract A titania-silica nanocomposite system with six different compositions (10/90, 20/80, 40/60, 50/50, 60/40, 80/20 molar ratio of TiO2/SiO2) was prepared by a sol-gel method. Different experimental techniques such as XRD, TEM, EDAX, DTA and density measurements by Archimedes' method were used to characterize each composition.

The investigation of X-ray OK??- and TiL??-emission bands in coarse-(???d > 5 ??m) and nanopowders (???d = 107 and 10 nm) reveals the narrowing and a change of their shape, that is due to the energy redistribution of valence electrons in the Op-states after the break of atomic bonds during the dispersion of the material to nanosizes.
