Experimental study of two low tip-speed ratio micro-scale wind turbines operating in tandem
This paper presents a parametric experimental study of a dual-rotor wind turbine system operating at low tip-speed ratios of the order of 1. The flow-field in the wake of such a multibladed-high solidity micro-scale wind turbine is measured and characterized at distances up to 15Rt, with Rt=70 mm being the tip radius of the turbine.

Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

This paper proposes a design strategy based on an understanding of basic rotor aerodynamics principles to achieve aerodynamically efficient small wind turbine rotor by determining proper design tip speed ratio (TSR) and number of blades. In the design and performance analyses of rotors, the blade element momentum (BEM) method was employed in ...

Study of blade aspect ratio on a compressor front stage aerodynamic and mechanical design report [PDF]
A single stage compressor was designed with the intent of demonstrating that, for a tip speed and hub-tip ratio typical of an advanced core compressor front stage, the use of low aspect ratio can permit high levels of blade loading to be achieved at an ...

This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Two-stage, low noise advanced technology fan. 4: Aerodynamic final report [PDF]
A two-stage research fan was tested to provide technology for designing a turbofan engine for an advanced, long range commercial transport having a cruise Mach number of 0.85 -0.9 and a noise level 20 EPNdB below current requirements.

The study presents biodegradable and recyclable mixed‐matrix membranes (MMMs), hydrogels, and cryogels using luminescent nanoscale metal‐organic frameworks (nMOFs) and biopolymers. These bio‐nMOF‐MMMs combine europium‐based nMOFs as probes for the status of the materials with the biopolymers agar and gelatine and present alternatives to conventional ...

Design of a Horizontal Axis Tidal Turbine for Less Energetic Current Velocity Profiles
Existing installations of tidal-stream turbines are undertaken in energetic sites with flow speeds greater than 2 m/s. Sites with lower velocities will produce far less power and may not be as economically viable when using “conventional” ...

Some observations of the effects of radial distortions on performance of a transonic rotating blade row [PDF]
A single rotating blade row was tested with two magnitudes of tip radial distortion and two magnitudes of hub radial distortion imposed on the inlet flow.
