Stoichiometric Binding of Cyclophilin‐A to The HIV‐1 Capsid Modulates Its Mechanoelastic Properties

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The HIV‐1 capsid is a protein nanocapsule that must balance rigidity and flexibility to enter the cell nucleus. Atomic force microscopy simulations reveal that binding of the host protein Cyclophilin A tunes this mechanical response: partial coverage preserves deformability, while excessive binding induces brittleness and failure.

A Dynamic Surface Metal‐Organic Framework Electrocatalyst: Potential‐Driven Activation of Atomically Defined Au Sites for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Operando EC‐STM reveals that an NHC‐based SMOF on Au(111), initially frozen in interconnected 1D chains, dynamically reconfigures under cathodic bias into a fluxional structure bearing undercoordinated Au sites while abstracting Au atoms from the support.

A Polar Topology Network Induces Elastic Stiffening in Ferroelectric Oxide Superlattices

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
The periodicity in BiFeO3/SrTiO3 superlattices tunes the system into a dense, elastically constrained polar texture state. This topology‐rich regime reveals a collective mechanical response in which interactions among polar topological defects restrict local deformations, producing a pronounced elastic stiffening.

Atomic‐Scale Control of Substrate‐Spin Coupling Via Vertical Manipulation of a 2D Metal‐Organic Framework

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
A slightly buckled 2D kagome metal‐organic framework (MOF) adsorbed on Ag(111) hosts localized spins which are Kondo‐screened by the underlying metal substrate. Using the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope, the MOF can be vertically manipulated to controllably change its adsorption height and with it, the Kondo coupling strength.
