An Unstructured RANS Study of Tip-Leakage Vortex Cavitation Inception
Volume 1: Fora, Parts A, B, C, and D, 2003To study the physics of cavitation inception, a ducted propulsor simulation is developed and extensively validated with experimental results. The numerical method is shown to be in good agreement with experimental measurements made in the vortex. The simulation is used as a tool for investigating the minimum pressure, circulation, and axial/tangential ...

Unsteady effects of vortex interaction on tip leakage vortex breakdown and its loss mechanism
Aerospace Science and Technology, 2018Abstract In an unshrouded high-pressure turbine, tip leakage flow causes a loss of efficiency. The loss mechanisms of tip leakage flow were investigated mostly with steady uniform incoming conditions in previous studies. This paper investigated the unsteady aerodynamic performance of the tip leakage flow in a turbine stage by solving Unsteady ...

Tip Leakage and Backflow Vortex Cavitation
2007In addition to blade surface cavitation, tip leakage and backflow cavitations occur in real inducers. Although most of cavitation instabilities can be explained by considering only blade surface cavitation, these types of cavitation might play an important role especially for the suppression of instabilities.

Tip leakage vortex cavitations originating from the tip clearance of an oscillating hydrofoil were observed experimentally. It was found that the delay between the unsteady and the steady-state results of the tip leakage vortex cavitation increase, and that the maximum cavity size decreases when the reduced oscillating frequency increases.

Turbulence Within the Tip-Leakage Vortex of an Axial Waterjet Pump
AIAA Journal, 2012Stereoscopic particle image velocimetry measurements are performed in an optical refractive index matched facility to investigate the evolution of turbulence in the tip region of an axial waterjet pump rotor. Presented analysis of mean flow velocity, vorticity, Reynolds stresses, and turbulence production/transport within the rotor passage focus on the

Evolution of the Tip Leakage Vortex in an Axial Compressor Rotor
Volume 5: Turbo Expo 2004, Parts A and B, 2004The evolution of tip leakage vortex is analyzed at both design and near stall conditions based on instantaneous and averaged velocity and vorticity distributions in cross flow sections measured with Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (SPIV) in a large-scale low-speed compressor facility. Formation, becoming unstable, and interaction of small-scale

Study on tip leakage vortex cavitating flows using a visualization method
Modern Physics Letters B, 2018Experimental investigations of unsteady cavitating flows in a hydrofoil tip leakage region with different gap sizes are conducted to highlight the development of gap cavitation. The experiments were taken in a closed cavitation tunnel, during which high-speed camera had been used to capture the cavitation patterns.

Theoretical Prediction Model of Tip Leakage Vortex in a Mixed Flow Pump With Tip Clearance
Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2019Abstract Tip clearance results in the leakage flow from blade pressure side to suction side, which will further cause the tip leakage vortex (TLV). Moreover, the flow pattern in an impeller is seriously deteriorated due to the TLV and its interaction with the main stream.

Study Tip Leakage Vortex of CPU Fan with Skewed Rotors
2013In this chapter, to obtain the characteristics of tip leakage vortex in the flow field of CPU fan with skewed rotor, the tip leakage flow fields are used to investigate the three fans with three kinds of circumferential skewed rotors, including the radial rotor, the forward-skewed rotor, and the backward-skewed rotor.
