Experimental and Numerical Investigations for Dual−Cavity Tip Aerodynamic Performance in the Linear Turbine Cascade

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
Experimental and numerical studies of a linear high-loaded turbine cascade with a dual−cavity tip structure are presented in this paper. The experimental conditions contained an increase in the outlet Mach number from 0.42 to 0.92, a change in the ...

Numerical Study on Vortical Flow Structure and Performance Enhancement of Centrifugal Compressor Impeller

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
The performance and efficiency of a centrifugal compressor are usually affected by the highly complex 3-dimensional flow structures which develop in the flow field of the compressor.

Blade Loading Effects on Axial Turbine Tip Leakage Vortex Dynamics and Loss [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
umerical simulations have been carried out to define the loss generation mechanisms associated with tip leakage in un-shrouded axial turbines. Tip clearance vortex dynamics are a dominant feature of two mechanisms important in determining this loss: (i ...

Influences of tip leakage flows on flow field at design condition in transonic centrifugal compressor with splitter blade

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
A tip leakage flow is well known to have predominant influence on a loss generation in a compressor. An impeller for a transonic centrifugal compressor is generally composed of the main and the splitter blades to gain the choke flow rate.

Focusing Schlieren Visualization of Transonic Turbine Tip-Leakage Flows

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2020
This paper presents a focusing schlieren system designed for the investigation of transonic turbine tip-leakage flows. In the first part, the functional principle and the design of the system are presented. Major design considerations and necessary trade-

The Role of Tip Leakage Vortex Breakdown in Compressor Rotor Aerodynamics [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Turbomachinery, 1998
The breakdown of tip leakage vortex has been investigated on a low-speed axial compressor rotor with moderate blade loading. Effects of the breakdown on the rotor aerodynamics are elucidated by Navier–Stokes flow simulations and visualization techniques for identifying the breakdown.

Effect of Tip Clearance Size on Tubular Turbine Leakage Characteristics

open access: yes, 2021
To study the effect of tip clearance on unsteady flow in a tubular turbine, a full-channel numerical calculation was carried out based on the SST k–ω turbulence model using a power-plant prototype as the research object.

Interference Effect of Shock Wave on Tip Leakage Vortex in a Transonic Variable Nozzle Turbine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power
The tip leakage flow at both sides of the nozzle vane is an important factor for the reduction in turbine aerothermal performance. A strong shock wave is generated at the trailing edge of the nozzle vane under transonic condition, which can interfere ...

Tip-leakage-flow excited unsteadiness and associated control [PDF]

open access: yes
Tip leakage flow in turbomachinery inherently generates intense unsteady features, named self-excited unsteadiness, which significantly affects the operating stability, aerodynamic efficiency, and noise but has not been well understood.

Reynolds Stresses and Dissipation Mechanisms in a Turbine Tip Leakage Vortex [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 5: Manufacturing Materials and Metallurgy; Ceramics; Structures and Dynamics; Controls, Diagnostics and Instrumentation; Education; General, 1994
Reynolds stresses and mean flow velocities were measured throughout a tip leakage vortex in a large scale linear turbine cascade using hot-wire anemometry. An X-wire endflow probe was rotated about the probe axis using a computer controlled stepper motor. An improved solution procedure reduced the approximations involved in the Reynolds stress analysis.
