Bouncing dynamics of resistive microswitches with an adhesive tip

Journal of Applied Physics, 2006
This paper provides a detailed analysis of the dynamic response of a resistive microswitch. The analysis has been carried out by modeling the microswitch as a cantilever beam, according to the Euler-Bernoulli theory, and considering the damping interaction of the moving beam with the surrounding fluid.

Mobilized side and tip resistances of piles in clay

Computers and Geotechnics, 2010
Abstract This paper presents a procedure to assess the mobilized pile side and tip resistance versus pile head and tip settlement under axial load in clay soil. The load transfer (t–z) curve is evaluated at any point on the loaded pile based on the combined pile tip/side resistance–displacement mechanisms along the length of the pile.

Analysis of cone tip resistance in sand

2009
The cone penetration test (CPT) has been used for decades in in-situ geotechnical engineering practice. The reliability and repeatability of the CPT measurements has increased its acceptance as a predominant tool in this field. The cone is pushed into the soil at a standard rate of 20 mm/s, and different measurements such as pore water pressure, sleeve

Improved consistency of resistance spot welding with tip voltage control

2011 24th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering(CCECE), 2011
Resistance spot welding is the key metal joining technique for high volume production in the automotive, biomedical and electronics industry. Weld quality is one of the dominant issues for the welding community. Thus a major focus of the spot welding research has been to control the process to improve the consistency of the welding process. In order to

Weapons of the poor: Tipping and resistance in precarious times

Economic and Industrial Democracy, 2016
The purpose of this article is to analyse how tipping practices are given meaning and acted upon by customers and employees. Though the concept of moral economy, the article traces the ideas of rights and entitlement that are embedded in tipping. The findings indicate that customers and workers enjoy tipping.

High Speed Resist Exposure With a Single Tip

2001
We have shown that current-controlled scanning probe lithography (SPL) can reliably pattern nanometer-scale features in resist. However, the serial nature of SPL makes it much slower than mask-based techniques such as photolithography, x-ray lithography, or extreme ultraviolet lithography.

Structural Performance and Hydrodynamic Resistance of a New Silicone Auricular Cannula Tip

2006 International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, 2006
Development of a new generation pneumatic of Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) required the design of cannulae to improve its optimal performance. In this case, a relevant restrictive design parameter was the material of the cannulae. Silicone was the best choice in a hemocompatible focus, but this is a material with very low stiffness.
