Assessment of optimum tip speed ratio in wind turbines using artificial neural networks

Energy, 2006
Wind turbine blade design depends on several factors, such as turbine profile used, blade number, power factor, and tip speed ratio. The key to designing a wind turbine is to assess the optimal tip speed ratio (TSR). This will directly affect the power generated and, in turn, the effectiveness of the investment made.

An Actuator Disc Theory for the Shed Wake at Low Tip Speed Ratios

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1965
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A model of flow through a helicopter rotor, suitable for estimating effects of shed wake in hovering and at low tip speed ratios, is described. With this method, the result for aerodynamic damping of blade bending oscillations is in agreement with more elaborate theories.

Cylindrical Vortex Model of a Rotor of Finite or Infinite Tip-Speed Ratios

2017
A simple vortex model of a rotor with infinite number of blades and constant circulation is presented in this chapter. The model consists of a root vortex, a right semi-infinite vortex cylinder of tangential and longitudinal vorticity, and a bound vortex disk (actuator disk) of radial vorticity. This model was briefly presented in Sect. 5.2.3 The model

Effect of tip-speed ratio on induced velocities near a lifting rotor

2017
A theoretical investigation of the asymmetry of induced flow in the vicinity of a lifting rotor in forward flight has been conducted. The analysis is based upon an asymmetric wake which is a logical extension of that used for previous investigations. Equations for the induced velocities at an arbitrary point in space are presented in a form suitable ...
