Tip Vortex Cavitation on an Oscillating Hydrofoil [PDF]
This paper discusses tests conducted in the hydrodynamic tunnel of the University of Grenoble on a 3D oscillating hydrofoil. Visualization of unsteady tip vortex cavitation indicates a strong influence of the water nuclei content. The investigation was focused on the influence of the oscillation frequency on tip vortex cavitation inception.

Prediction of tip vortex cavitation for ship prepellers [PDF]
An open propeller is the conventional device providing thrust for ships. Due to its working principles, regions with low pressure are formed on its blades specifically at the leading edge and in the tip region. If this pressure is becoming lower than the vapor pressure, the cavitation phenomenon is initiated, i.e.

RANS computations of tip vortex cavitation
The present study is related to the development of the tip vortex cavitation in Kaplan turbines. The investigation is carried out on a simplified test case consisting of a NACA0009 blade with a gap between the blade tip and the side wall. Computations with and without cavitation are performed using a RANS modelling and a transport equation for the ...

The best whistler: A cavitating tip vortex
The discrete tone radiated from a cavitating tip vortex, known as “vortex singing,” was first recognized in 1989, but its sound generation mechanism has remained a mystery for over 30 years. In this Letter, by means of the correction for the cavitation bubble dynamics and the dispersion relation of cavity interfacial waves, we found that after the far ...

Nucleation Effects on Tip Vortex Cavitation Inception Location [PDF]
Nuclei, or microbubble, populations are inextricably linked to tip vortex cavitation (TVC) inception and dynamics. In order to gain a better quantitative understanding of this relationship, high-speed video measurements were taken in a cavitation tunnel of TVC inception locations about an elliptical hydrofoil in flows with mono- and polydisperse ...

Vortex singing in tip vortex cavitation under the effect of water quality [PDF]
The phenomenon of vortex singing in tip vortex cavitation is studied experimentally in this paper. It is revealed that the vortex singing can be observed during the vortex cavity transfer from one phase to another in the same incoming flow condition. The state of vortex singing can only exist in a short duration from several seconds to several minutes.

Propeller tip-vortex cavitation and its broadband noise [PDF]
Comfort on board has become an important aspect in the design of ships over the last decades, especially comfort for passengers on cruise vessels and for owners of yachts. Therefore, cavitation on propellers for these ships should be minimized, leaving often only a tip-vortex cavity.

A Richardson‐extrapolation–based mesh zoning framework is developed to optimize CFD simulation accuracy and computational efficiency in dam bottom outlet flows. Using six mesh scenarios and multi‐parameter convergence analysis (pressure, velocity, TKE), the method identifies an optimal fine‐resolution zone around the gate and progressively coarser ...

A sonopiezo‐triggered singlet oxygen evolution system by S‐scheme SrTiO3‐TiO2 heterojunction was rationally designed to selectively remove electron‐rich pollutants from water. ABSTRACT Sonopiezo‐mediated heterogeneous catalysis is a promising technology for efficient removal of organic pollutants from wastewater. Nevertheless, it is challenging in real
