Easiness Amplification and Uniform Circuit Lower Bounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present new consequences of the assumption that time-bounded algorithms can be "compressed" with non-uniform circuits. Our main contribution is an "easiness amplification" lemma for circuits. One instantiation of the lemma says: if n^{1+e}-time, tilde{

Estimating competition coefficients in tree communities: a hierarchical Bayesian approach to neighborhood analysis

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2016., 2016
Abstract Quantifying the strength of competition and understanding how it translates into consequences at the community level are among the key aims of plant ecology. Neighborhood analysis based on the neighborhood competition index has been widely used to estimate species‐specific competition coefficients in tree communities. These estimates, however,

Green's Functions for Translation Invariant Star Products

open access: yes, 2015
We calculate the Green functions for a scalar field theory with quartic interactions for which the fields are multiplied with a generic translation invariant star product.

Intrasplenic Arterial Aneurysms during Pregnancy

open access: yesCase Reports in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
Splenic artery aneurysms account for about 60% of all visceral aneurysms. Pregnancy is a risk factor for splenic artery aneurysms rupture with high maternal mortality and fetal loss. Intrasplenic arterial aneurysms are extremely rare and have not been reported to be associated with pregnancy.

Outlier Detection Using Nonconvex Penalized Regression

open access: yes, 2010
This paper studies the outlier detection problem from the point of view of penalized regressions. Our regression model adds one mean shift parameter for each of the $n$ data points.

Inclusions and Microstructure of Steel Weld Deposits with Nanosize Titanium Oxide Addition

open access: yesJournal of Nanomaterials, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
Nanosize TiO2 particles were added directly into welding molten pool through electrode for the difficulty of accurate control of oxygen potential and production processing parameters. The characteristics of phase transformation and thermal behavior of inclusions for Fe‐C‐Mn‐Si‐Ti‐O system and Fe‐C‐Mn‐Si‐TiO2 system were analyzed.
