Cell and Tissue Banking, 2000
We initiated this study to evaluate the suitability for therapeutic use in transplantation of tissues obtained from human abortuses. We have developed protocols for the collection, handling and preservation of hepatic stem cells from electively aborted embryos and have developed methods for assessment of the cells so derived and processed.

Tissue donation after death includes several different products which can be life-enhancing (such as tendons) or life-saving (such as heart valves), with an individual tissue donor being able to potentially help many different patients. Different to organ donation, tissue donation can take place up to several hours after death; this means that the ...

Availability of Donor Corneal Tissue for Transplantation
Tropical Doctor, 2004The utilization rate of available donor corneas is very low almost everywhere. The present work was undertaken to study the rate of acceptability of donor corneas in a city eye bank in India. Donor eyes were evaluated under slit lamp examination and tissue quality was categorized as: very good; good; fair; and poor -following the guidelines laid down ...

Tissue Donors in Regional Hospitals: A Reality
Transplantation Proceedings, 2019Progress in transplantation means the process of procuring both human organ and tissues has become a daily challenge. Considering that tissues are usually procured from organ donors who have suffered brain death or after controlled cardiac death, the tissue procurement is done mainly in major hospitals.

The role of donor and recipient in tissue implantation
Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2006The relationships between embryonic stem and cambial cells in the ontogeny were evaluated on the basis of our data on organ embryogenesis and in vivo implantation of epithelial tissues and published data. We demonstrated the role of recipient tissues in the implantation process.

Use of infant donor tissue for endokeratoplasty
Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, 2001Endokeratoplasty using an infant donor cornea was performed in an 81-year-old man with Fuchs' endothelial dystrophy, corneal decompensation, and a history of cystoid macular edema in the left eye. The patient reported minimal discomfort after surgery, and the best spectacle-corrected visual acuity improved from 20/400 to 20/100 by the second ...

Donations by living donors include bone, cord blood, amniotic membrane, ophthalmic limbal stem cells and heart valves. The latter may include heart lung block recipients who then donate their hearts. Allograft haemopoietic stem cell donors of bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cells are also clearly living donors but are not dealt with in this ...

Bone allograft contamination in multiorgan and tissue donors
Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1998Multiorgan and tissue donors offer a larger quantity and high quality of bone allograft that cannot be obtained from living donors. The risk of bone contamination must be borne in mind if secondary sterilization is not performed. The bacteriological cultures of 270 bone segments obtained from 53 multiorgan or tissue donors were analysed to study the ...
