Donor Care before Pancreatic Tissue Transplantation
Progress in Transplantation, 2005Publications are reviewed to identify factors related to donor care that may optimize the function of pancreatic tissue (whole or segmental organ or islet cells) after transplantation. Short cold ischemia time, avoidance of hypotension, and treatment of donor hyperglycemia appear to be beneficial, although additional properly designed studies are ...

Contamination of Corneal Tissue From Infected Donors
Archives of Ophthalmology, 1985Thirty-two corneas with scleral rims were cultured from the eyes of 17 cadavers that harbored systemic infection at the time of death. Twelve (71%) of 17 cadavers demonstrated corneal contamination from one or both corneas. Eleven (92%) of 12 donors with positive postmortem blood cultures had positive corneal cultures from at least one eye.

Antimicrobial Effect of Cryopreservation on Donor Ocular Tissue
Cornea, 2014The aim of this study was to assess the antimicrobial effect of cryopreservation on donor globes with a previously positive culture. More specifically, our study aims at determining whether microbial organisms can still be cultured after cryopreservation in previously culture positive donor whole globes. This is a prospective quality assurance study of ...

Donor selection, retrieval and preparation of donor tissue. Donor selection.
Developments in ophthalmology, 2009Corneal transplantation safety is widely dependent on clinical donor selection. Donor-to-host transmission of rabies and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is well established, and it is lethal for the recipient. Taking into consideration this latter figure, contraindications to ocular tissue transplantation include not only rabies, contact with rabies virus ...
