The Contribution of Geological Maps and Mapping to Industrial Scale Design

open access: yesMaterials Proceedings, 2021
The aim of this work is to highlight the contribution of geological maps and mapping to industrial scale design. To achieve this goal, the site selection of a new quarry area is used as an example. For the development of a new quarry, the materials to be

Titan cell formation is unique to Cryptococcus species complex

open access: yesVirulence, 2020
Members of the Cryptococcus species complex stand out by unique virulence factors that allowed evolutionary transition to pathogenesis. Among the factors contributing to cryptococcosis is a morphological transformation into giant (Titan) cells.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Contributions from Accreted Organics to Titan’s Atmosphere: New Insights from Cometary and Chondritic Data

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2019
Since its discovery in the first half of the 20th century, scientists have puzzled over the origins of Titan’s atmosphere. Current models suggest that atmospheric N2 on Titan may have originated from NH3-bearing ice with N-isotopic ratios similar to ...

Structural studies and functional engineering of NanX: an anhydro‐sialic acid transporter from Escherichia coli

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Biophysical characterisation shows that NanX, a membrane transport protein from the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), forms both monomers and dimers after purification. AlphaFold modelling and substrate docking provide information on residues likely involved in substrate recognition for NanX and another MFS member, NanT.

Long Period Seismology on Titan in the Presence of a Methane Clathrate Lid

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
Previous 1‐D spherically symmetric seismic modeling studies have shown that in the presence of a clathrate lid on Titan significant thermal profile differences result, particularly in comparison to a pure water ice shell.
