The Effects of Uniquely-Processed Titanium on Biological Systems: Implications for Human Health and Performance

open access: yesJournal of Functional Biomaterials, 2014
Titanium is biocompatible and widely utilized in a variety of applications. Recently, titanium in pico-nanometer scale and soluble form (Aqua Titan) has expanded its use to applied human health and performance.

Contributions from Accreted Organics to Titan’s Atmosphere: New Insights from Cometary and Chondritic Data

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2019
Since its discovery in the first half of the 20th century, scientists have puzzled over the origins of Titan’s atmosphere. Current models suggest that atmospheric N2 on Titan may have originated from NH3-bearing ice with N-isotopic ratios similar to ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The Cryptococcus neoformans Titan cell is an inducible and regulated morphotype underlying pathogenesis

open access: yesbioRxiv, 2017
Fungi undergo changes in cell shape in response to environmental stimuli that drive pathogenesis and niche adaptation, such as the yeast-to-hyphal transition of dimorphic fungi in response to changing temperature.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

DSN observations of Titan [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
When using Deep Space Station (DSS)-14 in a monostatic configuration, radar observations of Titan show that Titan is a diffuse reflector with a relative radar cross section of 0.14 +/- 0.03.

The global energy balance of Titan [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The global energy budget of planets and their moons is a critical factor to influence the climate change on these objects. Here we report the first measurement of the global emitted power of Titan.

Detection of Propadiene on Titan [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2019
The atmosphere of Titan, the largest moon of Saturn, is rich in organic molecules, and it has been suggested that the moon may serve as an analog for the pre-biotic Earth due to its highly reducing chemistry and existence of global hazes.

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Long Period Seismology on Titan in the Presence of a Methane Clathrate Lid

open access: yesEarth and Space Science
Previous 1‐D spherically symmetric seismic modeling studies have shown that in the presence of a clathrate lid on Titan significant thermal profile differences result, particularly in comparison to a pure water ice shell.
