Ilmenite breakdown and rutile-titanite stability in metagranitoids: Natural observations and experimental results

open access: yes, 2017
Rutile and titanite commonly form by replacement of ilmenite in metamorphic rocks. Exhumed orthogneiss from the Western Alps show that titanite is mostly stable below 1 GPa while rutile seems to dominate within rocks recrystallized under higher pressures.

Metasomatism and Mélange Development at the Conditions of Modern Deep Slow Slip: P‐T‐t Evolution of Metasomatic Rocks (Pimu'nga/Santa Catalina Island, CA)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems
The subduction interface hosts megathrust earthquakes and ductile creep, is fluid‐rich and chemically dynamic, and produces metasomatic rocks that may host episodic tremor and slow slip (ETS).

High-Pressure Marbles from the Nahavand Area in the Sanandaj-Sirjan Metamorphic Belt, Iran [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sciences, Islamic Republic of Iran, 2015
Marbles containing high-pressure mineral assemblage was found from the Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt in the Nahavand area in western Iran.  The high-pressure marbles occur as small bodies or lenses within pelitic schist layers and show compositional ...

Cryptic geological histories accessed through entombed and matrix geochronometers in dykes

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Deep geology of ancient continental crust can be difficult to access, with direct observation restricted to limited exposures. The age and composition of hidden geology can be gleaned from indirect isotopic modelling or via detrital minerals within ...
