Thermoplasmonic Nanorings for Passive Solar‐Responsive Smart Windows in Energy‐Efficient Building Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents scalable silver nanorings with tunable thermoplasmonic properties for smart window applications. By responding to sunlight and environmental changes, the nanorings modulate near‐infrared light and reduce heat transmission. Their unique geometry enables dynamic optical control, offering a promising route toward energy‐efficient ...

On the Choice of Tool Material in Friction Stir Welding of Titanium Alloys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid state welding process patented in 1991 by TWI; initially adopted to weld aluminum alloys, is now being successfully used also for magnesium alloys, copper and steels.

Laser‐Based Sculpturing of Embedded Ultrathin Metal‐Oxide Nanopores for Enhanced Biomolecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐drilling of embedded HfO2 membranes creates three layer nanopores with Gaussian‐shaped cavities sculptured in the supporting layers. These embedded solid‐state nanopores slow DNA translocation by 12‐fold compared to SiNx pores, enabling high‐resolution, label‐free detection of short DNAs, RNAs, and proteins.

Direct imaging of short-range order and its impact on deformation in Ti-6Al. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Chemical short-range order (SRO) within a nominally single-phase solid solution is known to affect the mechanical properties of alloys. While SRO has been indirectly related to deformation, direct observation of the SRO domain structure, and its effects ...

Method for the production of strongly adhesive films on titanium and titanium alloys with a metallization process [PDF]

open access: yes
A process for the spray-application of a strongly adhesive, thick antifriction layer on titanium and titanium alloys is proposed. The titanium/titanium alloy component to be coated is first subjected to cleaning in a pickling bath with reducing additives

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Low-alloy content Ti-Mo-based alloys with large superelasticity and narrow stress hysteresis for potential biomedical applications

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters
In most Ni-free Ti-Nb- and Ti-Zr-based superelastic alloys, large amounts of high-cost and rare elements such as Nb, Ta, Hf and/or Zr are contained, increasing the cost and fabrication difficulty of the alloy.
