Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Air Oxidation Behavior of Two Ti-Base Alloys Synthesized by HIP

open access: yesHigh Temperature Materials and Processes, 2016
The oxidation behavior of Ti-5Al-2.5Sn and Ti-6Al-4V produced by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) has been studied at 650–850°C in air for 24 h. The oxidation kinetics of both alloys followed the parabolic law with good approximation, except for Ti-5Al-2.5Sn

Hot Deformation Behavior and Microstructural Evolution Characteristics of Ti-44Al-5V-1Cr Alloy Containing (γ + α2 + B2) Phases

open access: yesMetals, 2016
The hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of Ti-44Al-5V-1Cr alloy were investigated by hot compression tests at temperatures of 1000–1250 °C and strain rates of 0.001–1 s−1.

Ultrasonic treatment with nickel electroplating combined with oxidation for developing γ-Al2O3 washcoat on Fe-Cr-Al substrate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Fe-Cr-Al is used as metallic support for catalytic converter due to its high thermal conductivity, lower heat capacity, high temperature and mechanical shock resistance. γ-Al2O3 is the most widely used material as washcoat which embedded on metallic

Dielectric Barrier Discharge Plasma Deoxidation of Natively Oxide Layer of Copper Powders in a Fluidized Bed

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a novel approach to reducing oxide layers on metal powders using low‐temperature hydrogen dielectric barrier discharge plasmas at atmospheric pressure. Unlike conventional hydrogen‐plasma reductions, the powders do not contact the plasma directly.

Microstructure and mechanical properties of large size as-cast Ti-43Al-9V-0.2Y (at.%) alloy ingot from brim to centre [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A Ti-43Al-9V-0.2Y (at.%) alloy ingot with the size of Ф160×400mm was prepared by vacuum arc remelting (VAR). The microstructure of the as-cast Ti-43Al-9V-0.2Y alloy was composed of B2/α₂/γ lamellar colonies and massive B2 and γ phases which were ...

Development of Sustainable MgO–C Refractories Using MgO–C Recyclates and a Novel Eco‐Friendly Fructose–Tannin Binder Crosslinked With Citric Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study develops sustainable MgO–C refractories using recycled materials and eco‐friendly fructose–tannin binders. The enhanced performance of citric acid as a cross‐linker and functional additives on mechanical and thermomechanical properties was examined. Characterization included strength tests, immersion trials, and microstructural and inclusion
