Improving the Tensile Properties of Additively Manufactured β-Containing TiAl Alloys via Microstructure Control Focusing on Cellular Precipitation Reaction

open access: yesCrystals, 2021
The effect of a two-step heat treatment on the microstructure and high-temperature tensile properties of β-containing Ti-44Al-4Cr (at%) alloys fabricated by electron beam powder bed fusion were examined by focusing on the morphology of α2/γ lamellar ...

Method of protecting a surface with a silicon-slurry/aluminide coating [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
A low cost coating for protecting metallic base system substrates from high temperatures, high gas velocity oxidation, thermal fatigue and hot corrosion is described. The coating is particularly useful for protecting vanes and blades in aircraft and land

Improving Cyclic Oxidation Resistance of Additively Manufactured IN939 Superalloy via Chemical Vapor Aluminizing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 7, April 2025.
This study investigates the effect of a NiAl coating on additively manufactured (AM) IN939 to improve its cyclic oxidation resistance at 1050 °C. The coating promotes protective α‐Al2O3 formation, allowing durability for up to 240 cycles, while uncoated AM‐IN939 experiences spallation and weight loss due to nonprotective oxides.

Consolidation Efficiency of Noncompact Alloys by Diamond Burnishing

open access: yesНаука и техника, 2019
Active use of parts synthesized while using additive technologies from powders is limited due to presence of residual porosity contributing to a decrease in strength, ductility, fracture toughness, crack resistance, workability by cutting, as well as ...

Multiperspective Structural Integrity Investigations on the Rotor Blade of Axial Flow Compressor Under Various Rotodynamic Loading Conditions Using Enhanced Computational Analyses

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Small gas turbine (SGT) engines power the latest generation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This study investigates the axial flow–natured rotor blades of an SGT compressor. Rotor structures in axial flow compressors have failed due to complex stress scenarios.

Multiobjective Optimization of Fiber Laser Trepan Drilling for Stainless Steel Using Taguchi–Grey Relational Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The present work focuses on optimizing spatter size, taper angle, and circularity simultaneously during fiber laser trepan drilling of stainless steel thin sheet using Taguchi–grey relational analysis (GRA). The controllable process factors such as trepanning speed, average laser power, and pulse frequency with five levels are applied to conduct the ...

Microstrain Analysis of Titanium Aluminides [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials Science Forum, 2010
The aeronautic and automotive industries have shown a renewed interest in TiAl based alloys. The main reasons for such an interest are their low density (~3,8g/cm3), a good stiffness and a high strength for temperatures up to 750°C. However, these alloys exhibit, in their polycrystalline form, a poor ductility at room temperature with widely scattered ...

Development and characterization of in‐situ nickel aluminide reinforced Al‐Si matrix composites by stir casting

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 6, Issue 12, December 2024.
The graphical abstract demonstrates that adding 9 wt% nickel to an Al‐Si matrix composite increases hardness by 25.93%, tensile strength by 40.3%, and density by 6.01%, but decreases impact strength by 50% compared to the A413 alloy. It includes SEM images, a stir casting schematic, and data on tensile and impact behavior.

Duplex aluminized coatings [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
The surface of a metallic base system is initially coated with a metallic alloy layer that is ductile and oxidation resistant. An aluminide coating is then applied to the metallic alloy layer.

Impact of microstructure, temperature and strain ratio on energy-based low- cycle fatigue life prediction models for TiAl alloys

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, two fatigue lifetime prediction models are tested on TiAl intermetallic using results from uniaxial low-cycle fatigue tests. Both assessments are based on dissipated energy but one of them considers a hydrostatic pressure correction.
