Characterization of Rapidly Consolidated Titanium Diboride
Journal of Engineering Materials and Technology, 2011This study reports on the microstructure and mechanical properties of titanium diboride (TiB2) that was rapidly consolidated via plasma pressure compaction (P2C®). Titanium diboride powder with 2.5 wt % of silicon nitride (Si3N4), as a sintering aid, was rapidly consolidated using P2C® to inhibit grain growth and ensure high strength and ductility of ...

Production of Nanoscale Titanium Diboride Powders
Journal for Manufacturing Science & Production, 2011Synthesis of titanium diboride has been carried out using thermal plasma processing technique. Thermody- namic simulations have been carried out to determine the molar ratio of the reducing gas to be used in TiO2-B2O3- CH4 system. The reducing gas used was methane and the molar ratio of reducing gas to that of the solid feed was varied between 4 and 7.

High temperature deformation of titanium diboride
Journal of Materials Science, 1987Specimens of high purity polycrystalline titanium diboride, TiB2, were tested in uniaxial compression under vacuum at a strain rate of 5 × 1O−4sec−1 to determine the plastic yield behaviour. Generally, plastic deformation was detected only above 170O° C. The apparatus was able to apply u stress of 900 MPa at a maximum temperature of 2000° C.

Synthesis and consolidation of titanium diboride
International Journal of Refractory Metals and Hard Materials, 2007Abstract Titanium diboride (TiB2) is one of the candidate materials for high temperature structural applications and also for control rod elements in high temperature nuclear reactors. This paper presents the experimental data on the synthesis, consolidation to dense pellets and property evaluation of TiB2 carried out in laboratory scale. TiB2 powder

Silicon carbide–titanium diboride ceramic composites
Journal of the European Ceramic Society, 2013The effect of TiB2 content on mechanical properties of silicon carbide–titanium diboride ceramic composites was studied. The hardness of the ceramics decreased from 27.8 GPa for nominally pure SiC to 24.4 GPa for nominally pure TiB2. In contrast, fracture toughness of the ceramics increased from 2.1 MPa m 1/2 for SiC to ∼6 MPa m 1/2 for SiC with TiB2 ...

Dislocations in shock-loaded titanium diboride
Journal of Materials Research, 1988The structure of shock-loaded polycrystalline titanium diboride was examined with transmission electron microscopy. The shock wave from ballistic impact produces prismatic and basal slip in grains favorably oriented with respect to the shock wave. It can be deduced from annealing experiments with the formation of stacking fault hexagons that there is a

Pyrolytic titanium diboride filaments for composites.
AIAA Journal, 1966A novel low-temperature chemical vapor-plating process has been investigated for obtaining pyrolytic titanium diboride reinforcing agents. Both fibers and ribbons were prepared by the thermal decomposition of titanium borohydride vapors upon various substrates, such as fine tungsten wires and graphite yarns.

Interatomic reaction potentials in titanium diboride
Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1999Characteristic temperatures determined by Ti−Ti, Ti−B, and B−B bonds in TiB2 are evaluated. Values for the heat capacity, thermal expansion coefficient, bulk elasticity modulus, Gruneisen coefficient, and also exponents for Mie—Gruneisen, Morse, and Buckingham type potentials, and the critical pressure and volume of PV-diagrams are calculated for these
