The Effect of Fire Retardants on the Flammability, Mechanical Properties, and Wettability of Co-Extruded PP-Based Wood-Plastic Composites

open access: yesBioResources, 2014
In this work, fire retardants (FRs) such as aluminum trihydroxide (ATH), zinc borate (ZB), melamine, graphite, and titanium oxide (TiO2) were loaded into the shell layer of a co-extruded polypropylene (PP)-based wood-plastic composite (WPC).

Porcelain bonding to titanium with two veneering principles and two firing temperatures.

open access: yesSwedish dental journal, 2013
Dental literature, as well as dental laboratories, has described problems with ceramic veneering of titanium, while clinical and in vitro studies have reported good results. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of firing temperature, thermo cycling, and veneering methods on bond strength between porcelain and titanium.

Fire retardancy of sol–gel derived titania wood-inorganic composites

open access: yes, 2012
Sol-gel technology was applied in tailoring novel wood-made-inorganic composites with improved thermal and fire properties. In practice, composites materials were prepared by impregnating pine sapwood wood with nano-scaled precursor solutions derived ...

Extent, characteristics and policy applications of Key Biodiversity Areas

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A global standard for the identification of Key Biodiversity Areas (KBAs) was published 10 years ago to provide a unified set of criteria for identifying ‘sites of significance for the global persistence of biodiversity’. We review the initiative's origins, the KBA identification process, characteristics of the current network, threats, policy

Climate and anthropogenic controls on blue carbon sequestration in Hudson River tidal marsh, Piermont, New York

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2020
Tidal marshes globally are experiencing erosion with sea level rise. In order to adaptively plan for essential marsh preservation, we recognize the importance of the investigation of marsh archives for the perspective they provide toward resilience.

Artificial Intelligence–Driven and Digital Practices for Circular Business and Finance: Insights for Advancing Hubs for Circularity

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The emerging concept of Hubs for Circularity (H4Cs) presents an opportunity to create collaborative, self‐sustaining regional industrial ecosystems that drive circular economy transitions at scale. However, the operationalisation of H4Cs faces financial, organisational and data‐driven challenges.

Effect of metal selection and porcelain firing on the marginal accuracy of titanium-based metal ceramic restorations

open access: yesThe Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2010
Titanium is the most biocompatible metal used for dental casting; however, there is concern about its marginal accuracy after porcelain application since this aspect has direct influence on marginal fit.The purpose of this study was to determine the effect that metal selection and the porcelain firing procedure have on the marginal accuracy of metal ...

Mixed‐Impurity Co‐Poisoning of NH3‐SCR Catalysts: Poisoning Mechanisms, Antagonistic Effects, and Anti‐Inactivation Strategies

open access: yesEcoEnergy, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the synergistic effects of mixed impurities on ammonia‐selective catalytic reduction (NH3‐SCR) catalysts, including the poisoning mechanism of the catalyst caused by mixed impurities, the antagonistic effects between the impurities, and the research on the anti‐poisoning strategies for the catalyst in recent years.
