Sesquiterpene lactones from Tithonia rotundifolia
Phytochemistry, 1984Abstract A chemical investigation of Tithonia rotundifolia afforded seven new sesquiterpene lactones in addition to three known ones. The structures of the new compounds 3-acetyl-15-hydroxyleptocarpin, 15-hydroxyleptocarpin and tirotundifolins A, B, C, D and E were established by spectroscopic and chemical means.

Growth, reproduction and resource allocation of Tithonia diversifolia and Tithonia rotundifolia
Weed Research, 2008SummaryGrowth, reproduction and resource allocation of the polycarpic Tithonia diversifolia and the monocarpic Tithonia rotundifolia were studied in mixed and monoculture populations. The aim was to identify the characteristics contributing to the invasive habits of these species.

Toxicity studies of Tithonia diversifolia A. Gray (Asteraceae) in rats
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2009To investigate the toxicity of an ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of Tithonia diversifolia, used in Nigeria to treat malaria, in rats.A 70% ethanol extract was administered orally to adult Wistar rats at various dosages (400-1600 mg/kg) and the animals sacrificed and various organs examined at a range of times from 30 min up to 24 h after ...

Natural hybridization frequently promotes gene introgression among closely related species in sympatric populations, producing complex patterns of morphological variation. Therefore, a detailed understanding of the dynamics of interspecific gene flow and its morphological patterns is of widespread interest.

Tithonia (Asteraceae) in Nigeria
2016The distribution of Tithonia rotundifolia and T. disversifolia in Nigeria is circumscribed. While the former is anannual widespread from the forest borders to the southern limits of Sahel Savana, the latter is perennial occurring only as small populations except around Jos metropolis where it tends to be invasive. T. rotundifolia is propagated by seeds

Three new heliangolides from Tithonia rotundifolia
J. Chem. Soc., Perkin Trans. 1, 1986Further studies on metabolites of Tithonia rotundifolia(Mill.) Blake have furnished three new germacranolides, tithonin (1a), O-methyltithonin (1b), and 14-deacetyl-17,18-dihydrorotundin (2). Tithonin is a novel hemiacetal heliangolide oxygenated at C-14.

FLAVONOID CHEMISTRY AND SYSTEMATICS OF TITHONIA (COMPOSITAE)
American Journal of Botany, 1982Twenty‐four flavonoid compounds, including chalcones and aurones, are reported from 13 taxa of Tithonia. Pedunculin (4′, 6, 7‐trimethoxy, 5, 8‐dihydroxyflavone), also is characterized. The distribution of these compounds is compared to the existing classification of the genus based primarily on morphological data.
