Revision Risk Following Total Hip Arthroplasty in Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Cohort Study From the Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most successful orthopaedic procedures and provides good functional outcomes in both rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA) patients. However, RA patients face higher risks of adverse post‐operative outcomes.

Optimizing equity and efficiency in the aerial firefighting resource allocation problem

open access: yesInternational Transactions in Operational Research, EarlyView.
Abstract This study addresses the aerial firefighting resource allocation problem, formulated as the strategic prepositioning of a heterogeneous aerial firefighting fleet across capacity‐constrained airbases. A novel bi‐objective model is proposed that simultaneously optimizes efficiency (aggregate risk‐weighted accessibility) and equity (minimized ...

Points vs. passes: A comparison between electric fishing techniques for sampling fish populations in upland headwater streams

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Point‐abundance sampling by electric fishing (PASE) was compared with single‐pass (DF1) and triple‐pass depletion sampling (DF3) electric fishing on the same reaches of four headwater streams sampled over multiple years in the Ribble catchment, UK. Juvenile salmonids, mostly brown trout Salmo trutta with some Atlantic salmon S.

Association Between Perceived Quality of Postoperative Pain Care and Patient‐Reported Outcomes After Total Knee or Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Cross‐Sectional Study

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Nursing, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim This study aimed to examine the relationship between perceived quality of postoperative pain care and patient‐reported pain‐related outcomes in patients undergoing total knee or total hip arthroplasty and to identify factors associated with higher perceived care quality. Design A descriptive, cross‐sectional study.

Can Knee Arthroscopy Be Considered Entirely Safe for Patients Over 50 Years Old With no Risk of Osteonecrosis? Case Series and Literature Review on Post‐Artrhoscopy Osteonecrosis of the Knee (PAONK)

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1378-1388, May 2025.
Post‐arthroscopy osteonecrosis is a rare complication occurring in 0.82% of cases, primarily affecting patients over 50 with degenerative meniscal tears. Early detection through MRI and conservative treatment, including bisphosphonates and weight‐bearing avoidance, proved effective in most cases, while some required surgical intervention.

Creating Perforations in the Sclerotic Region of the Proximal Tibia During Total Knee Arthroplasty to Enhance Prosthesis Stability

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 1397-1405, May 2025.
Abnormal stress in the proximal tibia modifies the bone mineral density distribution pattern, and drilling in the sclerotic region during total knee arthroplasty is correlated with enhanced prosthesis stability. ABSTRACT Objective In patients with varus deformity of the knee, the redistribution of the subchondral bone mineral density (BMD) of the tibia
