Understanding Heavy Tails of Flood Peak Distributions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Statistical distributions of flood peak discharge often show heavy tail behavior, that is, extreme floods are more likely to occur than would be predicted by commonly used distributions that have exponential asymptotic behavior.

On Using Conventional and TL moments for the Estimation of a Mixture of Exponential Distributions, A Theoretical Review [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Applied Sciences, 2020
This paper focuses on derivation of a mixture of exponential distribution and Linear Moments (LM) and Trimmed Linear moments (TL) is derived for estimation of its parameters. A comparison was made between L-moments, TL-moments of two component mixture of exponential distributions and conventional moments.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

A New Cosine Topp–Leone Exponentiated Half Logistic-G Family of Distributions with Applications

open access: yesMathematics
A new generalized family of distributions, termed the Cosine–Topp–Leone–Exponentiated Half Logistic–G (Cos–TL–EHL–G) family, is proposed. The primary motivation for introducing this family is to enhance the modelling flexibility of the existing Cosine ...

Homogeneity testing for skewed and cross-correlated data in regional flood frequency analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In regional frequency analysis the homogeneity of a group of multiple stations is an essential pre-assumption. A standard procedure in hydrology to evaluate this condition is the test based on the homogeneity measure of Hosking and Wallis, which ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Statistical Analysis and Modeling of Heterogeneous Workloads on Amazon\u27s Public Cloud Infrastructure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Workload modeling in public cloud environments is challenging due to reasons such as infrastructure abstraction, workload heterogeneity and a lack of defined metrics for performance modeling.

Alternative Way of Statistical Data Analysis: L-Moments and Tl-Moments of Probability Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematical Research, 2015
This paper deals with an alternative method to characterize some probability distribution, i.e. L-moments and TL-moments. Moments and cumulants were commonly used for this purpose before. Moment method of parameter estimation is indeed very simple, but it is very inaccurate, especially if there are the moments of the third or higher order.

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...
