In patients with TMJ arthralgia, MRI‐detected joint effusion was graded from Grade 0 (no effusion) to Grade 2 (moderate‐to‐severe effusion) using T2‐weighted and proton density‐weighted images. Increasing effusion severity was associated with greater pain intensity and mandibular dysfunction.
