Scratching beneath the surface: Quantification of muscle architecture and myosin heavy chain content in the forelimbs of black‐tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys, Rodentia)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Black‐tailed prairie dogs are highly social ground squirrels that excavate communal burrow systems, most often in medium‐textured soils. Their forelimbs demonstrate morphofunctional trade‐offs for scratch‐digging and terrestrial ecology, including well‐developed and fast‐contracting proximal musculature with large mechanical advantage paired with ...

Effectiveness of a Novel Mono‐Block Splint Versus a Twin‐Block Splint for Anterior Disc Displacement With Reduction: A Randomised Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
The nMB splint demonstrated superior effectiveness in reducing joint noise and improving patient comfort compared to the TB splint, while both splints exhibited similar efficacy in relieving joint pain and enhancing MMO. The nMB design offers a promising, patient‐oriented approach for conservative treatment of ADDwR.

Comorbid Insomnia and Sleep‐Disordered Breathing in Painful Temporomandibular Disorders: Association With Pain Intensity

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
In 50 adults with chronic TMD pain, insomnia alone and COMISA showed similar pain intensity and subjective sleep complaints. However, COMISA was characterised by greater pain frequency, predominant morning pain and marked nocturnal hypoxemia. Sleep quality and oxygen saturation were associated with pain intensity only in COMISA, indicating that sleep ...

Predictive Value of TMJ Tomographic Parameters for Hypermobility‐Related Outcomes and Mouth Opening Capacity

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Tomographic TMJ parameters showed limited predictive value for hypermobility‐related outcomes. Male sex was consistently associated with greater mouth opening, while increased age reduced the odds of TMJ subluxation. Structural imaging features demonstrated weak associations with functional measures, reinforcing the multifactorial nature of TMJ ...

Occlusal Splint Therapy in the Management of Temporomandibular Disorders—Evidence from Systematic Reviews

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
This umbrella review of 21 systematic reviews evaluates occlusal splint therapy for TMD. Findings indicate mostly small beneficial or neutral effects on pain and mouth opening. Consequently, clinicians should prioritise cost‐effectiveness and patient preferences when considering splints, given the high variability in methodological quality across ...

Comparison of the Effects of Different Manual Therapy Techniques on Mandibular Mobility, Cervical Joint Position Sense, Jaw Function and Anxiety Levels in Individuals With Rheumatoid Arthritis and Temporomandibular Disorders: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesJournal of Oral Rehabilitation, EarlyView.
Joint mobilization and soft tissue mobilization improved mandibular mobility, cervical proprioception, jaw function and anxiety levels in rheumatoid arthritis patients with temporomandibular disorders compared to the control group. ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to compare the effects of soft tissue mobilization (STM) and joint mobilization (JM ...
