Impact of the Commercial Introduction of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair on Mitral Surgical Practice

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2020
Background There has been uncertainty regarding the effect of transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) with MitraClip on cardiac surgical practice. Our aim was to examine the impact of the commercial introduction of TMVr to a comprehensive mitral program.

Transcatheter versus Open Mitral Valve Repair [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Objective: The purpose of this article is to compare the outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr) using the MitraClip© and open surgical mitral valve repair.1 Method: The method performed was a literature review with PubMed, Google Scholar ...

Outcomes after transcatheter mitral valve implantation in valve‐in‐valve, valve‐in‐ring, and valve‐in‐mitral annular calcification

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 104, Issue 4, Page 837-852, October 1, 2024.
Abstract Aims We aimed to evaluate transcatheter mitral valve implantation (TMVI) using predominantly balloon‐expandable transcatheter heart valves (THV) in patients with a landing zone for a percutaneously delivered prosthesis. Background Patients with a degenerated mitral valve bioprosthesis, annuloplasty ring, and mitral annulus calcification (MAC ...

Percutaneous balloon mitral valvuloplasty with shockwave lithotripsy for the treatment of calcific mitral valve stenosis

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 104, Issue 2, Page 356-364, August 1, 2024.
Abstract Background Calcific mitral stenosis (calcific MS) presents a challenge for surgical treatment and is a contraindication for most contemporary transcatheter mitral valve replacement devices (TMVR), rendering patients with very limited therapeutic options.

Long or redundant leaflet complicating transcatheter mitral valve replacement: Case vignettes that advocate for removal or reduction of the anterior mitral leaflet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) procedures can be an alternative to surgical valve replacement for high surgical risk patients with bioprosthetic mitral valves, annuloplasty rings, or severe mitral annular calcification (MAC).

The First Pediatric LAMPOON Procedure for TMVR (Valve-in-Ring)

open access: yesJACC: Case Reports
The LAMPOON (laceration of the anterior mitral leaflet to prevent outflow obstruction) procedure is an innovative transcatheter technique designed to prevent left ventricular outflow tract obstruction during transcatheter mitral valve interventions.A 14-year-old male patient with a history of infective endocarditis, previously treated with surgical ...

Eligibility to COAPT trial in the daily practice: A real‐world experience

open access: yesCatheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions, Volume 104, Issue 2, Page 368-377, August 1, 2024.
Abstract Background The COAPT Trial was the first ever to demonstrate a survival benefit in treating functional mitral regurgitation (FMR). That was achieved through transcatheter mitral repair in selected patients. The exact proportion of patients fulfilling COAPT selection criteria in the real‐world is unknown.

Sex Differences in In-Hospital Outcomes of Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair (from a National Database) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
There is paucity of data on sex differences in outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR). We queried the National Inpatient Sample database (2012-2016) to identify hospitalizations for TMVR.

Comparison of Outcomes of Edge‐to‐Edge Mitral Valve Repair Versus Surgical Mitral Valve Repair for Functional Mitral Regurgitation

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, Volume 47, Issue 7, July 2024.
There is limited research on the comparative outcomes of TEER versus SMVr for functional mitral regurgitation patients. Our results show that TEER patients had fewer postoperative complications and a shorter hospitalization period compared with SMVr patients.
