2025 California Wildfire Observations Using Single Field‐of‐View Sounder Atmospheric Products (SiFSAP)

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 4, 28 February 2026.
Abstract Southern California wildfires result in a significant loss for Los Angeles and San Diego County from January 7 to 31, 2025. Palisades Fire and Eaton fires, the two largest fires that caused most of that damage, were observed by the infrared sounder CrIS and microwave sounder ATMS aboard a polar‐orbit satellite of the National Oceanic and ...

Recent Cloud Controlling Factor Analyses Indicate Higher Climate Sensitivity

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Cloud feedback is a dominant source of uncertainty in climate model estimates of equilibrium climate sensitivity (ECS). Cloud controlling factor analysis can observationally constrain cloud feedback. For the first time, we use separate rather than unified frameworks to assess high‐ and low‐cloud feedbacks and constrain the net cloud feedback ...

Reduction of Global Sulfate Aerosol Concentration and Corresponding Radiative Effects From Recent Chinese SO2 ${\text{SO}}_{2}$ Emission Reduction

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Anthropogenic emissions over China have recently declined due to environmental actions. This work estimates the sensitivity of sulfate aerosol (SO4 ${\text{SO}}_{4}$) concentration to the amount of SO2 ${\text{SO}}_{2}$ emissions reduction over China from 2010 to 2020 using an Earth system model with two different aerosol representations.

Rotational Flow Dominates Abrupt Seasonal Change in Zonally Asymmetric Tropical Meridional Circulation

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract The seasonal evolution of tropical meridional circulation varies across regions and plays a key role in monsoon onset and rainfall migration, with important impacts on agriculture and disaster preparedness. Observations show that these transitions often occur abruptly within days.

A geometrical result regarding time-of-arrival lightning location [PDF]

open access: yes
One reason for investigating Lightning Detection And Ranging (LDAR) is to validate data from the Optical Transient Detector (OTD). A Time-Of-Arrival (TOA) procedure may be used with radio wave portions of lighting signatures.

Hybrid Data Fusion Techniques for Localization in UWB Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
International audienceIn this paper, we exploit the concept of data fusion in UWB (Ultra Wide Band) localization systems by using different location-dependent observables.

Multiple Parameter Estimation With Quantized Channel Output

open access: yes, 2010
We present a general problem formulation for optimal parameter estimation based on quantized observations, with application to antenna array communication and processing (channel estimation, time-of-arrival (TOA) and direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation)

The Atmosphere's Substantial Role in Interannual Variability of Earth's Energy Imbalance

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 3, 16 February 2026.
Abstract Earth's Energy Imbalance (EEI) is a key metric to quantify climate change. While the ocean absorbs most excess heat, the atmosphere contributes only 1%–2% to the long‐term mean of EEI. However, our analysis of observational data demonstrates that variations in the atmosphere's energy content play a much larger role in interannual variations of
