Integrating infection intensity and aggregation into the dynamics of pathogens with within‐host replication

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 9, Page 1686-1698, September 2026.
We bridge micro‐ and macroparasite theory with a model tracking pathogen load heterogeneity. By incorporating load‐dependent mortality and within‐host pathogen growth, we show how pathogen load aggregation alters disease prevalence, host suppression effects, and virulence evolution, providing insights for managing complex infectious disease like ...

Urbanization Effects on the Community Structure of Saproxylic Arthropods in Warm‐Temperate Japan

open access: yesEcological Research, Volume 41, Issue 5, September 2026.
This study examined saproxylic arthropod communities in various landscapes, ranging from large to fragmented urban forests, and compared the structure and composition of these communities. The results showed that communities could be classified into three types based on species composition and that arthropod community types were correlated with forest ...

Novel class identification: A human‐in‐the‐loop approach for efficient species recognition in bioacoustic data

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 9, Page 2683-2700, September 2026.
Abstract Passive acoustic monitoring (PAM) is widely used to collect large‐scale wildlife data encompassing many species, but efficiently identifying all species—particularly rare and potentially endangered ones—without exhaustive manual examination of the entire dataset remains a major challenge.

Sharp bounds for Toader mean by arithmetic and centroidal means in exponential type with applications

open access: yesApplicable Analysis and Discrete Mathematics
We establish the optimal lower and upper bounds for the Toader mean by arithmetic and centroidal means in exponential type. That is, for any fixed p ? R, we find the best possible parameters ? = ?(p) and ? = ?(p) such that ?p(a, b; ?) ? T(a, b) ? ?p(a, b; ?) are valid for all a, b > 0 with a ? b, where T(a, b) is the Toader mean of a and b, and ?p(a,

Antipredatory Strategies of Anurans: An Updated Conceptual Review

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 9, Page 662-708, September 2026.
To unravel the evolutionary dynamics of predator–prey interactions, we propose an updated, three‐tiered classification of anuran antipredatory strategies. By mapping non‐behavioral, individual, and group defenses across five functional phases, this integrative framework introduces the concept of synergetic coupling.

Author's reply

open access: yesMind &Language, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 541-548, September 2026.
I am grateful to my commentators for their thoughtful discussion of the book. Each presents a challenge from an important perspective—robust realism (Aizawa), fictionalism (Toon), phenomenal intentionality (Mendelovici)—that a deflationist must address. Their comments prompt me to set out more explicitly the motivation for the project.
