Do spores herald the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event?

Review of Palaeobotany and Palynology, 2022
The environmental perturbations of the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE, ~ 183 Ma) were associated with the widespread deposition of black shales, such as the Posidonia Shale Formation in southwest Germany. We recently published a detailed palynological analysis of the deposits of the Posidonia Shale Formation at Dormettingen, investigating pollen,

A global perturbation to the sulfur cycle during the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event

open access: yesEarth and Planetary Science Letters, 2011
Abstract The Mesozoic Era was punctuated by intervals of widespread anoxia within the ocean, termed oceanic anoxic events or OAEs. The chemostratigraphy of these intervals also contains evidence of transient perturbations to many biogeochemically important elemental cycles.

Carbonate platform evidence of ocean acidification at the onset of the early Toarcian oceanic anoxic event

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2012
Abstract The early Toarcian oceanic anoxic event (Early Jurassic;∼183 Myr ago) is associated with one of the largest negative carbon isotope excursion (CIE) in the whole Phanerozoic (3–7‰). Estimates of the magnitude and rate of CO 2 injection in the ocean–atmosphere system are compatible with a scenario of ocean acidification.

The trace fossil record of the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event in the Iberian Massif

Geology Today, 2021
Trace fossil (ichnological) analysis of the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T‐OAE) in several sections from the Iberian Massif reveals a comparatively minor incidence of this global anoxic event in the macrobenthic trace maker community. A variable trace fossil record can be recognized, involving changes in ichnodiversity, abundance and size of ...

Carbonate-platform response to the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event in the Tethys Himalaya

2023
The Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE, ~183 Ma) was a profound short-term environmental perturbation associated with the large-scale release of 13C-depleted carbon into the global ocean-atmosphere system, which resulted in a significant negative carbon-isotope excursion (CIE).

Global hydroclimate perturbations during the Toarcian oceanic anoxic event

Earth-Science Reviews
An intensification of the hydrological cycle is an expected consequence of global warming, and this will likely lead to spatially variable precipitation and drought extremes, and more intense tropical storms. Deep time hyperthermal events, characterised by large-scale carbon release and transient global warming, have the potential to provide insights ...
