A new member of the GM130 golgin subfamily is expressed in the optic lobe anlagen of the metamorphosing brain of Manduca sexta

open access: yesJournal of Insect Science, 2003
During metamorphosis of the insect brain, the optic lobe anlagen generate the proliferation centers for the visual cortices. We show here that, in the moth Manduca sexta, an 80 kDa Golgi complex protein (Ms-golgin80) is abundantly expressed in the ...

Studies of the morphology and structure of the plasma lipid transfer particle from the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
Morphological features of Manduca sexta plasma lipid transfer particle (LTP) have been investigated by electron microscopy. LTP was found to be an asymmetric particle with two major structural features: a roughly spherical head and an elongated, hinged ...

CRITICAL WEIGHTS FOR METAMORPHOSIS IN THE TOBACCO HORNWORM, MANDUCA SEXTA

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1984
Fifth-instar larvae of the tobacco hornworm underwent a supernumerary larval molt under several feeding regimens. Supernumerary molting occurred only when the molt was initiated at a live weight less than about 3 g; at higher weights pupation took place.

Physical and chemical properties of microvitellogenin. A protein from the egg of the tobacco hornworm moth, Manduca sexta.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1986
Microvitellogenin belongs to a new class of low molecular weight female-specific proteins in insects. The protein is found in the hemolymph (blood) and egg of the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta.

The effect of corazonin on heartbeat reversal in pupae of the tobacco hornworm, Manduca sexta (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae)

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2004
Heartbeat reversal patterns have been monitored in the body of diapausing pupae of M. sexta 2 h before and 3 h after the injections of [Arg7]-corazonin, using noninvasive thermographic and optocardiographic methods.

Establishment & characterization of a non-adherent insect cell line for cultivated meat

open access: yesScientific Reports
This study presents a blueprint for developing, scaling, and analyzing novel insect cell lines for food. The large-scale production of cultivated meat requires the development and analysis of cell lines that are simple to grow and easy to scale.

Effects of Quinizarin and Five Synthesized Derivatives on Fifth Larval Instar Midgut Ecdysone 20-Monooxygenase Activity of the Tobacco Hornworm Manduca sexta

open access: yesInternational Journal of Zoology, 2014
The plant allelochemical, quinizarin (1,4-dihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinone), and five anthraquinones that were synthesized from quinizarin, namely, 1,4-anthraquinone; 2-hydroxy-1,4-anthraquinone; 2-methoxy-1,4-anthraquinone; 9-hydroxy-1,4-anthraquinone; and ...

Lipophorin of the larval honeybee, Apis mellifera L.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1985
Most insects have a major lipoprotein species in the blood (hemolymph) that serves to transport fat from the midgut to the storage depots in fat body cells and from the fat body to peripheral tissues.
