Interfacial modulation of alkaloid release pathways in aqueous-polyol solvents: Protonation-dependent vaporization kinetics

open access: yesResults in Chemistry
The release efficiency of alkaloids (e.g. nicotine) in aerosol-generating systems is strongly influenced by solvent-mediated molecular interactions at interfaces.

Comparison of Receptor‐Mediated Endocytosis and Its Application to Enhance DNA Transfection by TFAMoplex

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
We developed an assay to distinguish cellular binding from internalization. Compatible with microscopy and high‐throughput screening, the method identifies ligand‐mediated uptake. Applying top candidates to a protein‐based DNA carrier enhanced transfection efficiency, providing a rational strategy to improve non‐viral gene delivery systems.

Between Market Integration and Public Health: The Paradoxical EU Competence to Regulate Tobacco Consumption. Research Paper in Law 01/2018 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The EU has positioned itself as a key actor in the regulation of lifestyle risks,1 in particular in the fight against tobacco consumption. This figures prominently in the EU health program 2014-2020 which seeks ‘to promote health, prevent diseases, and ...

Enabling the study of gene function in gymnosperms: Virus‐induced gene silencing in Ephedra tweedieana

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise As the sister clade to angiosperms, extant gymnosperms are crucial for reconstructing ancestral gene regulatory networks in seed plants. This highlights the need for model systems representing each of their distinct lineages. However, tools to quickly and effectively investigate gene function in gymnosperms are still limited due to the

Three‐dimensional geometric morphometric analysis of diaphragmatic dome motion in COPD patients

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Diaphragmatic dysfunction is a hallmark of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in emphysema, where hyperinflation alters diaphragm geometry and impairs inspiratory mechanics. However, quantitative three‐dimensional (3D) assessments of diaphragmatic dome shape and motion across COPD phenotypes are limited.
