The demand for tobacco in post-unification Italy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper studies the demand for tobacco products in post-unification Italy. We construct a very detailed panel data set of yearly consumption in the 69 Italian provinces from 1871 to 1913 and use it to estimate the demand for tobacco products.

A Unique Chimeric RNA: ERCC1‐iASPP Drives Benzo[a]pyrene‐Induced Lung Carcinogenesis via Dual Coding and Non‐Coding Mechanisms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The chimeric RNA ERCC1‐iASPP possesses dual coding and non‐coding functions, synergistically accelerating the process of cellular malignant transformation. Abstract Genetic variation at 19q13.3 critically modulates chemical carcinogen‐induced lung carcinogenesis, particularly in mediating the activity of benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), a major polycyclic ...

Investigation of non-smoring nicotine-containing products

open access: yesНовые технологии, 2019
Non-smoking tobacco products are considered to be an alternative to cigarette use. Non-smoking products differ in appearance, way of consumption, ingredient composition, toxicity level, manufacturing technology, physiological effect.

A GLUTAMATE CYSTEINE LIGASE Gene StGSH1 Regulated by StERF10 Enhanced Glutathione Accumulation and Adaptation to Low Phosphorus Stress in Potato

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The StERF10‐StGSH1 module coordinates glutathione (GSH) biosynthesis under low‐phosphorus stress. The low‐phosphate‐induced AP2/ERF transcription factor StERF10 directly activates the transcription of StGSH1 and enhances GSH accumulation. Consequently, GSH scavenges reactive oxygen species and provides sulfur for sulfolipid synthesis, facilitating the ...

TBK1 Induces the Formation of Optineurin Filaments That Condensate with Polyubiquitin and LC3 for Cargo Sequestration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phosphorylation of Optineurin by TBK1 induces the formation of filaments that condensate upon binding to linear polyubiquitin. Membrane‐anchored LC3 partitions into these condensates, suggesting that phase separation of filamentous Optineurin with ubiquitylated cargo promotes the sequestration of cargo and its subsequent alignment with LC3‐positive ...

Improvement of the method for determining the resistance to inhaling cigarettes and pressure overfall of filter sticks considering international requirements

open access: yesНовые технологии, 2018
Resistance to inhaling and pressure overfall of filter sticks are of great importance for the manufacture of tobacco products with the specified parameters of quality and safety. Methods for determining these indicators, devices for their measurement are

National estimates of poisoning events related to liquid nicotine in young children treated in US hospital emergency departments, 2013–2017

open access: yesInjury Epidemiology, 2019
Background An estimated 2 million youth (in 2017) and 7.9 million adults (in 2015) reported currently using electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). Reports of poisoning events related to liquid nicotine (e-liquids) in ENDS have been on the rise, but

Two Novel S‐methyltransferases Confer Dimethylsulfide Production in Actinomycetota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies two novel S‐adenosine‐methionine‐dependent methyltransferases, MddM1 and MddM2, in actinomycetes from the Mariana Trench. These enzymes can convert toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methanethiol (MeSH) into dimethylsulfide (DMS), serving as a cellular detoxification and oxidative stress response.

Research on the potential of the biopreparation VVH 86086 as a biological tool for the topping of inflorescences of tobacco grown for seed production

open access: yesРастениевъдни науки, 2020
An important characteristic of tobacco seeds is their different quality caused by biological or physiological reasons. This different quality is due to the different conditions of the formation and maturation of seeds in seed capsules of each ...
