Biodegradation of nicotine for detoxification of tobacco waste
2011Tobacco industries produce large quantities of solid and liquid wastes. These wastes pose an important environmental problem, as some main components are harmful and toxic. They contain a high concentration of nicotine and total organic carbon. Furthermore, tobacco solid waste cannot be disposed in a landfill under European Union Regulation because ...

Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2014
Reconstituted tobacco sheet process has been developed to treat and reuse tobacco wastes in the industry. During this process, microorganisms in original and concentrated tobacco waste extract (TWE) might play important roles in the final quality of the reconstituted tobacco. However, microbial communities in TWE remain largely unknown.

Aerobic composting of tobacco solid waste
2002Solid waste from tobacco factory mainly contains tobacco particles and flavoring agents. Solid waste containing alkaloid nicotine is categorized as hazardous waste according to Croatian legislation and cannot be disposed in sanitary landfill. Thus, two solutions remained to get rid of that solid waste: incineration or composting process.

Assessment of the Thermal Processing Behavior of Tobacco Waste
Energy & Fuels, 2012Pyrolysis of tobacco waste can provide an effective management option, as it produces biogas and bio-oils, which can be subsequently applied for energy recovery, and biochar, which can be used for ...

Utilization of tobacco waste materials and by- products
2022The leaf is considered the only commercially valuable part of the tobacco plant and it is used for further processing into tobacco products. Root, stem, damaged or diseased leaves, flowers and seeds are discarded in the field and considered as agricultural waste, while during industrial processing of leaf scrap, tobacco dust and rib are separated ...

Extraction of bioactive compounds from tobacco waste [PDF]
Industrial waste is a growing problem across the world. Its accumulation has enormous environmental but also economic and social consequences. The tendency to reduce industrial waste has resulted in the development of new technologies that utilize by-products for various purposes. Tobacco is one of the most cultivated plants in the world.

Mushroom Culture Utilizing Tobacco Waste
1987Abstract Tolentino, Piedad R., 1986. Mushroom Culture Utilizing Tobacco Waste. Tobacco midribs, compared with other materials, have been found to be the best medium for the propagation of Volvariella volvacea. Spawns for Volvariella species utilizing tobacco midrib gave profuse growth of mycelium sans or very little contamination.

Composting of olive mill waste and tobacco waste in a closed reactor
2017In Croatia a large amount of agro-industrial wastes, like olive and tobacco waste, are generated during production of olive oil and cigarettes, respectively. These wastes are characterized by high values of chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), phenols, suspended soils, low pH value, high electrical conductivity and cannot be ...

Effect of winery waste and tobacco waste mixture on composting performance
2012composting of waste mixture of exhausted grape marcs (GM) and tobacco waste (TW) in the laboratory scale packed bed reactor has been investigated in this work. Experiments were carried out in two thermally insulated reactors with working volumes of 1dm3 and 10dm3 and the substrate was forcefully aerated at the flow rate of 0.55dm3min-1kg-1 init.volat ...
