A 15‐Year Time Series Shows Major Declines in Whale Sharks in Southern Mozambique

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 35, Issue 10, October 2025.
ABSTRACT A 15‐year dataset (2005–2019) of 706 photo‐identified whale sharks (Rhincodon typus) off Praia do Tofo in Mozambique allowed us to assess the local abundance trend, and size‐ and sex‐specific sighting and abundance trends, using both generalised additive models and capture–mark–recapture models.

The fourth order flux observer with in‐loop filter for permanent magnet synchronous motor sensorless control

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 18, Issue 11, Page 1421-1434, November 2024.
To enhance the performance of the flux observer in mitigating DC bias and high‐order harmonics, this study introduces a fourth‐ordered flux observer (FOIFFO). Theoretical analysis demonstrates that the FOIFFO exhibits robust attenuation capabilities towards DC bias and harmonics, thereby preventing motor parameter mismatch and additional interference ...

Load restoration of electricity distribution systems using a novel two‐stage method

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 8, August 2024.
‐A two‐stage algorithm to achieve optimal, accurate, and applicable solutions for SR in distribution networks. ‐Many important considerations include the time of occurrence of the failure and the daily load curve of the network, the position of the maintenance team, the load transfer capability as well as the traffic conditions.

Testing for concordance between predicted species richness, past prioritization, and marine protected area designations in the western Indian Ocean

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract Scientific advances in environmental data coverage and machine learning algorithms have improved the ability to make large‐scale predictions where data are missing. These advances allowed us to develop a spatially resolved proxy for predicting numbers of tropical nearshore marine taxa.

Preliminary investigation on growth responses of Cyprinus carpio L. fed on locally formulated artificial diets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The growth rate and feed conversion ratios of the common carp, Cyprinus carpio were measured for five test diets in 14-day replicate laboratory studies. The young carp were fed with artificial test diets with crude protein contents ranging from 14.50 to ...

Novel approach to studying marine fauna: using long-life remote underwater video cameras to assess occurrence and behaviour of threatened and data-deficient elasmobranch species in southern Mozambique

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Understanding the behaviour and ecological role of elasmobranchs is essential for their conservation, particularly in regions harbouring threatened and data-deficient species like the Inhambane coastline in southern Mozambique, southwestern Indian Ocean.
