Tokamak and Spherical Tokamak Research in Japan

Fusion Science and Technology, 2007
Japanese tokamak and spherical tokamak (ST) research programs are described. Tokamak research will focus on steady state high β (β N = 3.5-5.5) research on JT-60SA (formerly NCT) in support of ITER and DEMO. JT-60SA will also serve as the Satellite Tokamak under the JA-EU Broader Approach framework. ST research has been reorganized as the All-Japan ST

Multipole tokamak equilibria

Nuclear Fusion, 1973
Solutions are given for axisymmetric MHD-equilibria obtained by superposing the magnetic field of the plasma currents and the field of current-carrying conductors situated outside the plasma. These equilibria were numerically calculated by several different iteration methods for solving the non-linear free boundary problem.

Tokamak in India

Science, 1996
In the News & Comment article “Korea plans new tokamak machine” by Jeffrey Mervis and Dennis Normile ([22 Dec. 1995, p. 1918][1]), there is no mention of the steady-state superconducting tokamak (SST) 1 being fabricated at the Institute for Plasma Research in Gandhinagar, India.

The role of the spherical tokamak in clarifying tokamak physics

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1999
The spherical tokamak (ST) provides a unique environment in which to perform complementary and exacting tests of the tokamak physics required for a burning plasma experiment of any aspect ratio, while also having the potential for long-term fusion applications in its own right.
