Commercial tokamak reactor potential with advanced tokamak operation
Nuclear Fusion, 1995The attractiveness of future commercial tokamak reactors is sensitive to the attainable plasma performance, notably plasma energy confinement and allowable beta. The impact of varying levels of confinement and beta on the size and cost of the resulting tokamak reactor is systematically quantified.

The physical properties of nuclear fusion reactions govern the fuel choice and the selection of the operating plasma temperature. Scientific feasibility, or energy break-even, is one objective of the current research program. Engineering and economic feasibilities will depend on achievable plasma densities at thermonuclear temperatures and on ...

Maximum entropy Tokamak configurations
Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion, 1990The new entropy concept for the collective magnetic equilibria developed in preceding papers is applied to the description of the states of a Tokamak subjected to Ohmic and auxiliary heating. The condition of existence of steady-state plasmas with vanishing entropy production implies, on the one hand, the resilience of specific current density profiles

Tokamak global confinement data
Nuclear Fusion, 1990Within the framework of the INTOR activities, a collection of experimental data from major tokamaks in the world was started, to provide the tokamak community with quantitative information on a choice of well documented discharges that can be used as a starting point for further analysis of the physics of tokamak plasmas. The response was excellent. It

The main characteristics of the plasma produced in Thor tokamak discharges are described. The machine performances are outlined and the experimental results relevant to the equilibrium, the stability and the control of the discharge regimes are discussed in detail.

Time-resolved spectroscopy in the Rijnhuizen Tokamak Project tokamak
Fusion Engineering and Design, 1997Abstract At the Rijnhuizen 'rokamak Project tokamak spectrometers are used to diagnose the velocity distribution and abundances of impurity ions. Quantities can be measured as a function of time, and the temporal resolution depends on the line emissivity and can be as good as 0.2 ms for the strongest lines.

Plasma Equilibrium in Tokamaks
Fusion Science and Technology, 1998We have presented a theoretical description of toroidal equilibrium which involves the solution of the Grad-Shafranov equation and a careful choice of the parameters. The experimental counterpart is the production of accurate equilibrium data by means of all available diagnostics. To get agreement between these two is a long-term iterative process. The
