A Novel Focal Length Measurement Method for Center-Obstructed Omni-Directional Reflective Optical Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
An omni-directional optical system can be used as a surveillance camera owing to its wide field angle. In cases in which a system is designed with a central screen obscuring structure to increase the resolution of the off-axis field, however, the ...

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

Multibody Dynamics for Assessing Tolerance Effects in Roller-Bearing-Supported Rings

open access: yesDesigns
The accurate motion of roller-bearing-supported rings is critically influenced by shape and positional tolerances, which are often underestimated in conventional modeling approaches.

A comprehensive study of tolerance analysis methods for rigid parts with manufacturing signature and operating conditions

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2017
Most models for computer aided tolerancing proposed by researchers and used in industry do not fully conform with standards. Moreover, most of them make severe assumptions on observable geometric deviations and can therefore hardly handle all kinds of 3D

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Octree-Based Generation and Variation Analysis of Skin Model Shapes

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing, 2018
The concept of Skin Model Shape has been introduced as a method for a close representation of manufactured parts using a discrete geometry representation scheme.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Full-Space Modeling of Geometric Variation Propagation in a Multi-Axis Milling System Considering Local Parallel Chains

open access: yesMachines
The end-effector accuracy of a multi-axis milling system is primarily affected by assembly errors and deformation errors induced by low structural stiffness.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
