Disinfection of Surgical Materials Using Photo-Activated Tolonium Chloride
IFMBE Proceedings, 2009Photo-activated disinfection is a technique which has recently become available for use in disinfection in dentistry. This technique makes use of the dye toluidine blue O coupled to a low powered laser to generate singlet oxygen which kills the bacteria without harming the patient.

The intraperitoneal administration of propoxyphene HCI to albino mice at a dosage level of 200 mg./Kg. (LD 99.5 ) was lethal to 98 per cent of the controls. The prophylactic subcutaneous administration of nalorphine HC1 alone, or in combination with either methylene blue or tolonium chloride, significantly increased the number of survivors with the ...

Methylene blue or tolonium chloride antagonism of sodium nitrite induced methemoglobinemia
Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1979Methylene blue is widely accepted as an antidote for nitrite toxicosis because of its ability to stimulate reduction of methemoglobin (ferrihemoglobin) to hemoglobin. It is usually used only in low dosage (4mg/kg) because of its purported enhancement of methemoglobin formation in high dosages.

Pharmacokinetics and toxicity of tolonium chloride in sheep.
Veterinary and human toxicology, 1997The pharmacokinetic disposition, urinary excretion and toxicity of tolonium chloride were determined after i.v. administration to sheep. Pretreatment with sodium nitrite significantly decreased the volume of the central compartment, apparent volume of distribution, area under the concentration-time curve, and total body clearance of tolonium chloride ...
