Is the butterfly Tomares ballus (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) a potential pest of Lens culinaris (Leguminosae)? [PDF]

open access: yesRevista de Biología Tropical, 2009
The lentil (Lens culinaris) is identified as a new host plant of the lepidopteran Tomares ballus. Five larvae of T. ballus were found on 19 May, 2007 in a crop of "castellana" lentils in Toledo Province, Spain and reared in the laboratory.

Adaptive significance of the prolonged diapause in the western Mediterranean lycaenid butterfly Tomares ballus (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2017
Diapause is a common dormancy strategy exhibited by many species of invertebrates and insects to temporarily avoid seasonally recurring unfavourable conditions for their development, most usually in winter.

The genome sequence of the Provence Hairstreak, Tomares ballus (Fabricius, 1787) (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae) [version 1; peer review: 2 approved] [PDF]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research
We present a genome assembly from a male specimen of Tomares ballus (Provence Hairstreak; Arthropoda; Insecta; Lepidoptera; Lycaenidae). The assembly contains two haplotypes with total lengths of 839.94 megabases and 831.10 megabases. Most of haplotype 1

Molecular taxonomy of Tomares hairstreaks (Lepidoptera, Lycaenidae, Theclinae) [PDF]

open access: yesDeutsche Entomologische Zeitschrift, 2020
Tomares hairstreaks comprise about 10 species distributed from Europe and North Africa to Central Asia. The taxonomy of the genus is hampered by the absence of diagnostic characters by which specimens can be unambiguously assigned to species.
